What is the one--or even top 3--music purchases you've made, due to this forum? The music that meant the most to you, that without its being mentioned in this forum, you never would have known about, or might never have purchased? Who influenced you to make the purchase? Cheers.

Sigur Ros - grinch
Homesick for Space - grinch
Pedro the lion - grinch

Heh, he and I listen to a LOT of the same music. Quite pleased about that. Though I am certain I would know about Sigur Ros without any mention of it on these boards...

Minya and I also listen to a lot of the same music, though he recommended me a ton offboard so I didn't include it (same with Grinch).

'My Dying Bride' -Thanks to DarkAngel

But a bit too recent of a discovery to qualify as "cherished" just
yet.

Edit: But certainly an all time staple.

while a whole bunch of my music gets bought because of Head-Fi (or at least checked with the consensus here) what stands out to me:

Peter Gabriel. 3 and Us are among my top 10 favourites. would've never gotten into this without you people!

all of my sing/songwriter CDs. love this stuff. in fact, it's the type of music I have been listen to the most since discovering Aimee Mann about a year ago.

Head-Fi rules!

DustyChalk, markl and wab are probably my favourite 'sources'. while I'll never be able to appreciate the total range of what those three listen to, they sure know good stuff.

2+ years ago when I started "darkest desires" part one tips by KR and a couple others got me started on a dark metal buying spree, the seed was planted and so far I have discovered and purchased 300+ dark metal Cds.......really challenged and expanded my music pallete.

Famous Blue Raincoat. I can't remember the last time I so completely enjoyed a new album so quickly.

homesick for space (grinch)
sigur ros (no idea)
GyBE (Jon Beilin)
pedro the lion (again grinch)
steve burns (grinch again as his head swells)

i do hope however that i have made some good suggestions as well even though mine are slightly off the wall sometimes, mostly from places that people don't want to order from like burningshed. but i just bought three new albums tonight by bands i've never heard of so maybe they will be my reco's to come. but i do hope i have contributed to this forum in some form or fashion, afterall this is where i spend most of my time.

tonight i got three albums which i'd like to suggest, they might not be for all tastes but here goes:

Ambulance Ltd, debut album from another brooklyn band, very pop in nature.

Bohren & Der Club of Gore "BlackEarth" recommended to sigur ros fans.

Muse "Absoulution" supposed to be more for the radiohead community.

take em with a grain of salt, one man's trash is anothers treasure but i tried...

I got Selected Ambient Works vol. 2 by Aphex twin on the recommendation of Minya. It threw me for a loop at first but it's like no music that I've listened to before. Most of the times that I listen to it I'm in bed about to fall asleep, and the music has this way of seeping into consciousness and fooling around with my thoughts. It sounds creepy, but it's a lot of fun.

Interesting topic. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the Music forum is one of the most valuable forums on Head-fi. It's definitely expanded my horizons. So, the three best I got from here (been awhile, so I don't remember who specifically suggested all of them):

- Nightwish : Wishmaster (probably KR... or DarkAngel)
- Within Temptation : Mother Earth (probably KR... or DarkAngel)
- Hooverphonic : The Magnificent Tree (Dusty Chalk)

Sovkiller recommended me "In Session" Stevie Ray Vaughn and Albert King. It is one of my all time favorites now.
