To be frank, your original reply could be perceived as rude to some people due to your second statement:

"Do you expect me to know the prices of every headphone?"

No one in their right mind expects you or anyone else to know that information. You could have just mentioned to him that you were not familiar with budget headphones right now and left it at that.

and his reply could be perceived as rude as well, which is the main reason why I replied.

no problem, I apologize if I came off rude as well. Koss PortaPros have always been my #1 for cheap headphones that punch well above their price. I actually want to try that superlux one, doesn't it have a detachable cable so you can make it into a headset with a Vmoda Boompro?
Edit
On wait its not that's probably a different version.

I have owned/own many headphones in my day form cheap (HTF600, porta pros, Superlux, SR80's) to expensive(HD800,HE-6, Stax SR007), that being said,  if you want a budget headphone that sounds good I cant recommend these enough http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SE-A1000-Over-Ear-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B0033PROOY as long as you do not care about aesthetics or portability. The have a fantastic tone, deep bass and the sound stage of the K701.  They still remain in my collection after others have come and gone.

k701 you say? Interesting... Although that's a lil' too much to gift to a bunch of family members, or convince a stingy person looking for a headphone to buy... More of a price beginner audiophiles are looking at. I think you told me about it a while back in a reply to a not so nice pm I sent you? (sorry about that btw...) anyways... For the price it costs, I might have to get one so I can hear this myself.

They were like 500 hundred when they came out back when, guess they didn't move at that price point based on the fact they look like orthodontic equipment.

To answer the question the ZX100 sounds like a slightly Worse PortaPro to me. For the 6 dollars I got it for I ain't even mad. Can't comment on vs HD201, never heard it.

Really? The ZX100 sounded tinny to me. I'd put the PortaPro almost at the level of my V-Moda XS

Yup. The PortaPros are more detailed, but I still find myself reaching for the ZX100 a lot.

PortaPros, can't even buy a decent meal for the money these days.

That should be in a thread called:

Audiophile reaction to low-end headphones

And I forgot to add, I am a PortaPro approver :) If only the "cool kids" would give them a try, we wouldn't have the abomination called "Beats by """Dr."""" plague.

A lot of the early posts here were great, but then this just turned into a Beats bashing/online etiquette thread.
