Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II - Page 19

Anyways, i just showed my hfi 580 with fiio e11 to my uncle, a beats loving friend, and my cousins boyfriend (another beats lover).

Ok, my uncle has always been into music, and top of the line hardware. Currently he only has a pair of skullcandy aviators, as hes not a fan of the beats sound signature. I put them on and played some blackmill, and he closed his eyes and just sat there... Till he was through 3 songs and i finally stopped the music. I said guess the price. He said 300$. I was glad to tell him i got them for 120$ new biggrin.gif he simply said that those made his headphones sound bad in comparison.

My beats loving friend who currently had the beats studios told me my headphones were amazing, and now she regrets buying those.

My cousins boyfriend didnt currently have any headphones but had heard the beats before and were convinced they were the best. Now proven wrong.

Hmm. I wouldn't have pegged the 580 as too far ahead of the Aviators. Individual tastes I guess.

Well, he likes classical and instrumental music, so the bass just covers the rest of the spectrum to his ears. I turned the fiio to eq 0 for him..

I managed to convince a friend of mine to buy an ATH-AH900X and he loves it. However I have another friend who says that he doesn't "See the point in spending so much on headphones", sad really but to each to his own I guess.

My older brother asked to try my ATH-A700X's, he enjoyed it a lot more than the Beats he purchased and regrets in doing so.

It's just like how some people can't enjoy fine dining in a proper restaurant seeing it's like $20 per dish. We all have our preferences, its alright for us to let them taste it, but we have to be neutral and acceptant of their preferences, but who knows, maybe with the right headphones and their favorite track they could actually pick up and catch the bug.wink.gif

$20 isn't that expensive for fine diningwink_face.gif Bills for 4 people where I go about 5-10 times a year, go up to $400-$600. Without tip.

And that's without even adding foie gras now that this state has that dumb ban in effect!

Wait, a ban?  Why would they ban it?

Cause of animal cruelty subject things yada yada, but that is another story that should be taken somewhere else to discuss about. (just trying not to drop oil on the potentially fiery subject)
Also.... shark fins have high levels of mercury and it's tasteless, just statingwink.gif So.... i am actually glad they use fake sharkfins at chinese weddings because it's cheaper since it's just glass noodles which doesn't have mercury (or at least, not as much)biggrin.gif

Actually it has nothing to do with animal cruelty; geese have no gag reflex and can be fed that way humanely. The bill was spearheaded by groups that want to outlaw all meat altogether, but knew they couldn't fight the beef industry's army of lawyers. So they went after a smaller industry without any defenses.

Back on topic, I think I might have spawned a new audiophile. I let a friend listen to my HD650's, now he's asking me about HD419's he saw on sale. He says that after listening to the 650's everything else sounds crappy.

Hmm didn't know that lol. Thus again the importance of knowing the whole story first.

On the headphone subject, got my firend to follow me to the jaben shop. And as usual the shop asks your budget, gives you a higher end model, makes you love it, and makes you realize how much better you could get after increasing your budget. But before you shoot them down for product pushing, just letting you know that they sometimes provide discounts or freebies if you are a regular customer or buy a set of items. So my friend with a budget for a goldring dr100 wants a dr150 because it sounds much better although it is overbudget.

Add on note: lol his ears are already spoilt by your HD650 already haha

Woops, I meant that he was looking at the HD428's. Hard to tell all those Senn HD4XX's apart. I do feel bad for starting him on the path to self destruction by demo-ing HD650's, but at the same time I'm glad he liked them. Not like my cousin, who no matter what I let him listen to, will respond with "I still like the Apple earbuds because... they have really good.. bass...."

Lol well the higher tier the equipment you use the higher the chance of you succeeding. And lol again about apple earbuds having good bass, *stares at graph showing a cliff dropoff at 200 or so hertz* unless he is referring to earpods.
It's a little sad that so much music and taste is bass oriented. Logically speaking vocals should be the most important if everything else is not already.

Nope, he's been insisting this about the old earbuds. I have no idea what he's talking about with the "good" bass on those. confused_face(1).gif

That's..... odd... i have never been this surprised in my whole head-fi lifeblink.gif

Does he run heavy equipment while listening to them. biggrin.gif
