Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II - Page 100

with my hfi 580s (entry fi) i tended to get either "Not enough bass" or "Yeah those are really good!"

with my signature djs (summit fi) i either got "I would never pay 1000$ for those" or "HOLY *insert favorite cusword here* those are amazing its like im on the stage with them it feels like subwoofers on my head its so clear" but would usually say later they wouldnt buy them for 1000$. some agree that they are worth it though.

So, in other words, sound aint worth 1000$ to most. No ****. I just wish people could just understand that i use these constantly and that they bring me much MORE happiness than anything cheaper... lol.

Everyone has pretty much the same reaction: "These sound great! Wait, you spent HOW much?? No thank you!"

If they reacted in any other fashion, they wouldn't be non-audiophiles, now would they?

Yep, I just got pounced on by some guys at work when they found out how much my HD800's cost.  Stuff like "your nuts" or " you have better things you could do with your money".  For one I told them to STFU it's my money...then I asked them how much they spent on their boats...Heh. :veryevil: you know what's coming here. They said anywhere from $6k to $16k.  I asked them how many hours they used them last summer, the $6k dude said about 80 hours, respectable amount, the $16k dude got all quiet and mumbled 10 hours!!! That is engine hours but still!!! $16k and he drove it 10 hours all summer for fishing!!!  That's maybe two or three fishing trips... I told them, "I use my headphones for literally hundreds of hours ALL YEAR ROUND."  They sputtered a little bit but eventually gave up...FTW:beerchug:  I also told them I buy my fish fresh and don't need to spend thousands on all the equipment to go get it, just to add a little punch to it...

HFI-580 - "Not enough bass"

Does not compute.

"I'll take 'Things that didn't happen' for $500, Alex."

Jokes aside, that's pretty awesome. I told my girlfriend how much my HE-500's were, and how much my NFB 10.33 was. She was not impressed. But then I reminded her of her 85 posters and that shut her up quickly.

:beerchug:it actually did happen, today in fact,  started with one guy giving another grief over a shotgun he bought and never shoots.  They really hit the roof when I told them about the Stax 009 and the $11k that it costs when used with a BHSE... I would still get more use out of it than they do their boats...

I've probably had more positive reactions to my new HD650 than to any other can I've owned before. I think it strikes the right balance between being appreciably detailed and involving for a casual listener to see it as a step up, while inexpensive enough used ($330) to not trip up the crazy price sensor.

And one does not have to drag boats or cars into the debate. Next time mention either the 'impulse' purchases of silly trinkets or products of the contemporary degenerate culture, or the waste of money spent on the junk food. If you take a low estimate of 10 dollars a week spent on the junk food snacks that are not only not needed but actually harmful to a human body and on the cancer causing sugary paint-and-chemicals pop drinks and sodas, the result would amount to over 500 utterly wasted dollars in one year. 20 dollars a week would amount to over 1000 dollars wasted and for that money one can buy top ranked headphones. I actually did this, I was curious if I had a willpower and could eliminate waste spending for a year so I did this experiment. I used a big thermos to make hot or cold, depending on a season, drink for the whole day. This way I eliminated the purchases of the soft drinks and I added the boycott of the Starbucks. Hot dogs and ice creams were also added to the boycott list. I made the sandwiches at home instead. The year's savings became the Audio Technica ATH-W3000ANV. The spare one, that's how good these headphones are.

I've gotten the "not enough bass" line after I let a friend of mine listen to my V-Moda LP2's.

Yeah...

My friends usually retort when they see all my headphones with:

"Why would you need that many pairs, you can only use one at time"

My retort is usually:

"Well I prefer different pairs for different music genres or applications"

Well colleagues though I was crazy 3 years ago when I get a pair Jh16pro for over $1000...and last week I had my AK240 shipped to my office and very one we interest in what I bought...so I unwrap my present infront of a few of them... then held it in there hand and said this thing looks very well built for an mp3 player...lol...So one eventually asked how much it was ...I paused and said have a guess....$400 one side...another then siad it has to be more then that and said $600...I said no...I wish it was that cheap...so the final guess was $1000...I smiled and said remember these IEM i bought a few years ago for $1000? It's 3 times that...They all started looking at me as if I was an alien...Why would you pay $3000 for an mp3 player? I said " Yes, although it can play mp3, it not really designed for that, the premium is on the DSD playback fuction and hirez lossless playback..

No one know what the hell as DSD and refused to believe anything would sound better than a 16bit wav file.
One even asked if I could get DSD music file from itunes...lol (2 of them actually when home and Goggle about DSD..)

At that point I also commented that I am expecting some new carbon fiber IEM in the upcoming few weeks to go along with this new DAP because the JH16pro just isn't good enough...lol

There was a guy at work that I gave a 280 pro away to which I found for sale in a second hand store for $15 dollars. He thinks its the best experience he's had since going semi deaf at his favorite Linkin Park concert . His face was a convulsion of elation, eargasm and utter shock rolled into one when he heard his fav dub step tunes after years of listening to red hot bloodletting razorblade ear buds from his local $2 knockoff shop. I think his brain might have imploded if he head them coming from my Fostex.

I admit I would look someone queerly if they told me they had bought a 3k$ mp3 player.. But then again I've spent several thousand euros on a bicycle and camera so who am I to judge.

Brough my XBA-4 to my friend! One begging me to sell it to them for BND 150,the other asking to borrow it home in exchange for ATH-M50 xP both impressions is "that bass!"

At the same time, I brought along Noontec Zoro HD (review up very very soon) for my friends. The third friend can't let it go haha the one who was begging me to sell him my XBA-4 was getting attached to my Sony. While the ATH-M50 owner were talking with me on how to do the exchange and when to return. His looking to buy the V-Moda m80 for some reason but I told him it's not really an upgrade over the ATH-M50 and it is less comfy. I recommended him the ATH-M50 last time... Long ago haha

Haha I read this too fast I thought you had bought an akg 240. After people guessed I figured you would surprise them and say, no I got it for under 100 bucks. Until I got to the 3k part and had to go back and reread. Anyway congrats on the new player
