My mom today asked me if i liked listening to music, or if i just liked listening to how good it sounds.

If this isnt an oxymoron i dont know what is.

well if she means like "how good it sounds" as in quality and detail of the recording, i.e. flac vs 128kbps, then I guess that question would make sense. I often find myself exploring different artists and genres just because there is a very well-mastered album of it that many people recommend.

Most of us here on Head-Fi have listened to various artists at one point purely for the recording quality. I know I never would've been a big Dire Straits or Sparklehorse fan if they both weren't fantastically recorded.

Ok I think my colleague is now a convert. He was left with an uncontrollable smile on his face and was trying to look serious. He was absolutely gobsmacked by The Crystal Method on these. He's out on the market for something at $200, I told him to look at the UE6000, MDR-1R and a few others seeing as he will mostly go portable.

I just find it as an oxymoron as she was asking essentially if i cared about the song or just the quality of it... The quality of a song makes the song more enjoyable...

So... I dont know why this confuses me...

It's a common debate, I think the SUmmit Fi Thread has a "do audiophiles like music" debate some where

Non the less, we like both the quality and the music it self

This thread got derailed a while ago by someone who kept arguing that audiophiles were just tech heads who didn't like music. Frankly, I'm a music lover who wants my listening to reproduce the sound of a live performance as much as possible. Not that I'm anywhere near, but that is the problem with this addiction!

+1

Lets make sure to not derail this thread then.

Back on topic, i also showed my signature dj's to my extreeemely stubborn, bose only, brother in law.

He grinned. And turned it all the way up. He takes them off and says "the bass is like..." And he makes a motion with his hands next to his ears and says "Yep. Those are awesome"

Just let my friend listen to v-moda LPs. They are my "strictly EDM" headphones. Now they don't want to listen to their own cheap headphones ._. I just bring these headphones to school cuz they are cheap

I gotta admit I'm pretty shy and awkward. I don't know how to maintain a conversation, but with her it could go on for ages.

She asked whether I got Radiohead in my playlist, I have all of their albums. And she got that same stupid grin I had. lol.

Don't keep my hopes up too high though guys, I've been known to strike out fairly badly and consistently. Haha.
