I have a Western Electric 396a, which are supposed to be pretty decent tubes.  Will post results when I figure it out!

Hi,

Once you remove the screws, dont use them again as they will be no good.

Drop us a PM with your address and we'll send you some new screws from England. It may take 7-10 days.

Yes, WE396A are nice and not inexpensive.

Two questions:
Can I set 3D holographic sound to headphone mode on iTube?
Is it wise to connect output from iTube to tube amp like Pan Am?

Hi,

1. Technobear is correct. Only 3D holographic for Speakers on the iTUBE.

2. iTUBE has RCAs in and RCAs out.

To make the Itube sound about 100% better, get an Astron linear power supply set up for 9V. I paid $94 plus shipping and this makes the Itube sound killer now. Sonics is 10/10.

Do you have a link for this power supply? I just got an Itube today and so far I'm not impressed. Last week I bought a iusb, it makes it so I get the sound I would get if I listen with my laptop unplugged...maybe a little better. Maybe that power supply would help out the Iusb too. I also have the purifier, it doesn't seem to do anything. I use a yulong u18 usb/spdif converter and yulong d18 DAC. I think maybe this combo is too good to be helped by all this ifi gear I bought.

Call Larry at Comart and ask for Astron SL11A for 9v.

Three of us guys on AC are now using this and we are blown away at the improvement. Two of us are using the Sony HAP-Z1ES music server.

I've highlighted your problem in bold. You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear wink.gif

Are you saying all usb/spdif converters are garbage, or is the U18 a poor one? I had great improvement switching to the u18 from the teralink x2.

I'm saying S/P-DIF is garbage. Once you convert to S/P-DIF you lose all the benefits of using asynchronous USB.

There are very few good S/P-DIF sources on the market. The Slim Devices/Logitech Transporter was about the most affordable one that was any good.
