So, I was not planning on purchasing the iCAN right away until I just saw it available on Amazon. I pulled the trigger and will be receiving it on Wednesday. Finally, I have a real amp for my desktop and the E12 can now be put to portable use as it is intended.

Wish I'd held back for the new version but didn't know there was another in the pipeline. Still an amazing amp which is very well suited to the LCD2. Never thought I'd use the additional tweak(s) but with certain tracks it really does help. It's subtle though...

The iFi Audio Facebook page mentions that they have an exchange policy to retrofit the gain switch:

"For all iCAN users since the launch in October 2012 wishing to have the extra gain control, there is a one-off upgrade fee of US$50/Euro40 (plus shipping) to exchange your unit. Please contact your retailer."

Hmm, the dealer I bought from just informed me that the exchange will be $100 plus shipping (I assume, both ways).  Sad early adopter iCANner.frown.gif

Do you emailed ifi audio regarding this issue? Maybe they can solve the issue.

Do you guys think this will be the new version with gain control?

This is pretty hard to say but not worth the risk, better to get it from some dealer I supposed, which you can make sure it is the latest one with gain control.

Between, the iFi Audio iTUBE will be coming out soon. Should be around 330Euro.

They are an authorized iFi dealer from what I see...

They are. but unless you can contact them directly, if not it is pretty hard to make sure it is the gain version.

How does the iCan compare to the E12? I've been eyeing the iCan for a while but am also wondering how much of an upgrade it will be over the E12.

Well, my friend... I can tell you that the exact reason why I purchased the iCAN is because I wanted to upgrade from using my E12 for my desktop rig. It is a worthy upgrade and now allows me to focus on using the E12 for strictly portable purposes (as it was intended for, anyway).

The bass boost is much cleaner and the added 3D boost is a major plus for closed headphones. I am very please with my purchase cool.gif
