Will burn both cans more and update if I detect sound quality changes. I think the A900X will be a better choice for gaming both due to louder bass (gives gunshots and explosions more impact) and I personally felt sound positioning is more focused/precise on the A900X.  K550 has a very large, airy sound stage that envelopes you but sound image is also a bit blurrier.

Damn, deciding actually got a little more complicated with that review!

I know this topic is old, but I wanted to share an experience I had yesterday w/ the a900x.

I was playing BF3 TDM on Caspian Border @ a LAN party. I heard a guy on the opposite side of the fence and was able to tell exactly where he was. As he ran around the fence, I popped him bad. Just then I heard a loud, "BULLS@#$!"

I turned around and told him...headphones. wink.gif

He wears Razers...they light up.

Well, he just bought him before the LAN, so I didn't wanna make him sad. Plus, I really don't want him to be any better. He already owns me enuff.

You're welcome. my only complaint is that they suck w/ my glasses.

I own both the ATH-A900X and K550s.

I do prefer the A900Xs for music, I guess there is more "life" to their sound.

I had though about selling off the K550s, but their sound for some reason appeals to me.

I guess their sound is very "easy" on the ears, seems like you could wear them for long periods of time without your ears getting "bothered".

I am a pro gamer with a 12 years experience in FPS.

Regarding the gaming-wise section, I would like to humbly invite everyone from the topic to view some totally new thoughts in my own topic:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/689580/overview-review-request-cyber-snipa-sonar-5-1-gaming-headset

P.S.: Hope I ain't breaking forum rules.

TOPIC STARTER, I suppose your point is wrong, sorry. Best surround experience can be got ONLY using 5.1, because stereo headphones can ONLY emulate localization, they cannot physically show you it, only 5.1 have the possibility! TESTED!

If you agree, you can browse the assortiment in that section using the following link (I AM NOT ASKING/TELLING that you should buy there, just look for stuff):

http://www.computeruniverse.net/en/groups/30000556/pc-headsets.asp?props=30005218%7C10000519,30012287%7C10001675&home=false&props_mastergroup=Falsch&groupid=30000556&navigate=1&props_groupfilter=30000556

AND

http://www.computeruniverse.net/en/groups/30000556/pc-headsets.asp?props=30005218%7C10000519,30012288%7C10001675&home=false&props_mastergroup=Falsch&groupid=30000556&navigate=1&props_groupfilter=30000556

Although I do not believe there is difference between 5.1 and 7.1. The localization may be slightly better, but 5.1 is really enough.

Thank you for attention!

P.S.S.: In my case, I have dedicated software, so I've got HEADSET-equilazer and each_driver_volume adjustments available - that's how i got really amazing sound. I CAN NOT TELL YOU REGARDING ANY OTHER CHOICE FOR SURE, it depends on the manufacturer!

I have a tough time believing a 5.1 headphone could even begin to compete in terms of sound quality w/ a 2 speaker headphone.

That's my point also. Problem is head-fi specialists did not pay attention to 5.1. Until now, having that the gamer-audiophile said his word :D

I also suppose 5.1 portables will conquer the market of hardcore audiophiles after a while, the audio quality/possibilities are much higher capped so. I think we shall see 80 Ohm drivers inside a 5.1 system. Virtually, only weight is what matters. Who knows, maybe another type of music recreation will be invented, not the magnet-driver type. Or some very-expensieve-but-light technologies.
