Stuffing rear ported speakers question

Hi everyone, just wondering if stuffing the rear ports with socks on a pair of aktimate mini's is safe to do? as they are placed about 15cm from side and back wall and I am getting severe booming. Sadly I can't move them due to space restrictions.

It's safe. The woofer cone is more damped when the port is plugged. I've done it many times with a rolled-up sock. Try it and see if it helps reduce the booming.

When you close off a port, the driver does have to work harder to create the same amount of bass output (volume). Depending on the speakers and amplification, you may need to be careful about overdriving them.

Ok thanks guys. I have only got a small room anyway so it don't take much volume to fill my room up. I was just a little worried just in case the aktimates use the left port for heat dissipation...

Hi Spark3,

 

I have the same speakers. They sound amazing for their size. I also had some bass bloat but isolating them on stands and if possible, moving them further from the walls does wonders.
