Portable amp for Sennheiser HD650

Like the title says, what is a good portable amp to match the 650's? I use a rockboxed ipod (currently with a Fiio E7 and dock out cable). Someone reckoned the 650s wouldnt sparkle with the Fiio e7.

So, what would?

Try a necosoundlabs one off eBay - not pretty, but sounds incredible and has more than enough power.

I've been pretty happy with the Fiio E12 powering my HD650's. Before that, the O2 amp was often recommended, but I think the E12 has superceded it.

I'm getting fantastic results w/ my HD650 w/ the Neco Soundlab as well.

I'm beyond happy with the TTVJ Slim with my 650's. (And I am also using an iPod with a LOD)

Suggestions that I own and use with my HD650 -

TTVJ Glacier

ALO National

Portaphile 627

- any of the above amplifiers will give outstanding results.

Andy.

Yeah, the portaphile looks amazing. I AB'd the Neco and found it compared very well w/ the National. Perhaps a little less warm.

Andy, will you get the portaphile w/ the extended battery when it comes out?

imackler,

Yup definitely, as 4 hours of sonic bliss is just too short a time span.  If the Portaphile attains an 8 hour run time it'll be unstoppable.

I have the TTVJ Slim which was, apparently, replaced by the Glacier. Have you heard the Slim? Do they sound similar?

There's also the Graham Slee Voyager. Remember reading somewhere that Sennheiser use them to demo the HD650's so I imagine that they must have great synergy.

+1 For the Neco Soundlabs V3,mine has more than enough power and with the battery upgrade lasts forever.Another upside is you could drop it out of a plane with out damage, just don't drop it on your toe.blink.gif

Thanks guys, been reading up on the Graham Slee Voyager but it seems to add a lot of flavour to the sound. How about the Fiio E9k and Fiio E17k combo? Any thoughts?
