E09K+E17 or E17 by itself?

Which sounds better for Q701, and easily driven headphones such as MDR-1R?

E09K has more power does that make it sound better? I also hear that if the amp is too powerful it will add distortion to headphones like these with low impedance rating is that true?

I think the Q701 sounds a bit better thru the E09K, but it's not a huge difference. The E09K is slightly smoother.

I like the E09K because it is a nice docking/charging station with a more convenient volume control.

That comment about too much power is complete BS.
Just make sure you have the volume set to a reasonable level and you should be OK with a high powered headphone amp.
I've heard Grado headphones thru a Bryston headphone amp, they sounded fine.
