DAC / Airplay / USB query

I recently re ripped my collection of CD's into Itunes as Apple Lossless, I have been playing them through my stereo by streaming from my iMac through an Airport Express using Airplay.
 
I have bought a Teac UD-H01 DAC which I have connected to the AE with an optical connector. The Apple Lossless files play at a sample rate of 44.1 but some Linn downloads which are sampled at 192kHz still only play at 44.1. Am I right in thinking this is a restriction of Airplay/Airport Express?
 
I then connected the Teac to my iMAC by USB having firstly downloaded the driver. The Linn downloads still played at 44.1. I expected them to play at 192, could anyone tell me why this is.

Check your Midi settings in the iMac (applications>other>audio MIDI setup) and make sure that you have the output set to 24/96. (not sure what you can do with OS X and 192 though...sorry) This will also allow you to see your Airplay settings, and you will see that you are locked to 44.1  and 16 bits, using Airport Express, unless the hockey puck version had addressed this.
