Speaker amps for headphones - Page 27

Got to listen to the BIG Mac MC452. Wow..... Yes it was supremely overkill at 400wpc 8ohms but it didn't detract from it's wonderful sound. The meters on average listening showed .5 watts. Loud listening went to 4.5 watts (though this is with calibration @ 8ohms, not 50ohms). Full, vibrant sound. No stress or flat soundstage. Also listened to a 100wpc Simaudio Moon series 340i. These amps will show you what the HE-6 can do. Very impressive.

On a different topic, I was introduced to USB cables. Damned if I can explain it but the level of clarity, depth of sound and dynamics improved. All this "bit perfect can't be improved" can be heard. I walked away $100 lighter. tongue.gif

OT: What cables did you try btw? I have only recently began researching USB cables.

And back on topic: was the HE-6 just a straight plug in to the Mcintosh? Saw pics of it online and absolutely love it's look.

Wireworld Starlight USB cable.

The HE-6s were ran from the speaker terminals. I didn't bring my 1/4" adapter to try.

agreed! I bought that cable some time ago now. When I bought it I was also surprised that sound was improved.
