Speaker amps for headphones - Page 162

Yggy looks sort of interesting, but I don't need balanced out, and by the time I got done selling the DA8 and buying the Schiit, I could just buy a pre-amp -- much less hassle.

And then there's the option of waiting to see what people think of the forthcoming OPPO HA-1...

Yeah I hear ya. It's great to be content with what you have. I just chose a major complexity for my speaker rig because I wanted to challenge myself lol, and to run long interconnects in future.

Yeah that unit makes for a great all-in-one package. Especially with the analog inputs! Not for me though (DIY)... :)

I especially like the adjustable gain. It's about time manufacturers are catching on to this. Gain is a huge factor in regards to subjective sound quality.

Dear Brunk:

Those of us who love you need to be honest with you:  you are a masochist.

Not quite hehe. Running DA8 XLR-out to an analog active XO (balanced in/out) with OPA4227 and film caps throughout, into 4x LPUHP amps with a 50VA toroidal for each. Not wired up yet however. Someday though, I am going to build the Linkwitz Orions, just need the proper size and isolated room to run them.

I will , as this is not really a speaker forum. But since you have both. Most defiantly.

Thanks Al :)

For anyone curious, here is my balanced analog active x-over :)

Crossover is at 10khz 24Db/Octave, using OPA4227

I've looked at the DEQX before. I think I've mentioned it before (in this thread?) but it's not a bad price for an all-in-one unit. The downside of course is that it's an all-on-one unit.

Still, it's not something worth considering unless you are well into five digits with your speaker rig.
