Formula 1-fi (Read the First Post!) - Page 57

I can understand those that visit will feel it as a downgrade. btw just installed the formula V12 in GSC 2013. Now this is a screemer :D

Personally, I'm very much in favor of the new sound levels and I'm surprised more people on an audiophile forum aren't. Ear plugs kill sound quality and texture, and the need to wear them to avoid permanent damage is a major factor of why I've never been to an F1 race even though Montreal is a pretty reasonable drive from here. When Vettel said that it's quieter than a bar, I personally thought to myself 'good! Bar's are so loud I can barely hear myself think anyway'.

EDIT: Aside from the loudness dispute that has pretty much dominated the issue, however, I do prefer the sound (not the level) of the old engines; I'm very much in favor of high-pitched over deep when it comes to engines. The turbos are neat, but I was quite fond of the scream of the older engines - although I preferred the V10s. I never got a chance to listen when it was still V12s, but I probably would've liked them even more. I never thought - from what I've heard on tapes - that the classic turbos of the 1980s sounded all that great, either.

Amazing job by Vettel I am sure the Internet is in awe about his achievement ;)

Mercedes is looking good but Red Bull might catch them.

What is is with Dead Bull? Does Vettel have a "must have Austrailian #2 as a whipping boy" in his contract or somehthing?

Although I know the whole Red Bull conspiracy theory is really popular, right now the way it stands we have 1 race-ending failure outside their control for each of them. Just imagine what people would have been saying if Australia had happened with Vettel in front!

Ricciardo put up an impressive fight early in the race, but Vettel clearly had the measure of him all weekend. The Red Bull sabotage theories are only credible if they could prevent the #2 from beating Vettel, like Webber at the Nurburgring last year. Ricciardo was never going to beat Vettel yesterday, problems or not.

Yeah, it's more like #2 seat at RB is cursed and all drivers there are doomed to poor pitstops and higher parts failure rates. Beware the Webber curse lol.

I'm just saying that 2 races in, and no problems for him in the first race, is a bit early to say Ricciardo is having the exact same treatment as Webber.

Oh yeah I agree. It's way too soon to speculate based on one bad race.

Ferrari is not even close to being competitive with RB. Its looking more like MB will dominate this season with RB in close but a distant second.

I can't believe that the awesome sound of F1 is gone! I remember running up to the fence at my first Grand Prix and Nigel Mansell going by in a V10 Renault. The look on my face must have been priceless because I was hooked. It was the smell of the gasoline and how you felt those engines through your body when they went by that made F1 a sureal experience. I even got to meet Ayrton Senna in Cananda at an Italian Restaurant. Ah! Those were the days..... Long gone now. They sound like mopeds.

I've been to various races from the mid-nineties up until last autumn -I think the new power plants sound horrid, at least on television. The old 13k V12's were a primeval, visceral scream that you felt in your bowels as much as heard. And the sound was the main reason to go attend a race live (since you see so much less of the race in the stands than on tv, frankly). I'll never forget sitting on the grass near Maggots-Becketts and hearing/feeling the cars downshift through it and then accelerate out - awesome. The V8's were less overwhelming but still pretty impressive. From what it sounds like on telly, this year would leave you seriously wanting.

However, I absolutely love hearing the tires sliding under the various loads- to me that adds a big element of understanding what the cars are doing in the corners and under braking. And I love the torque/power >> grip formula. This is what F1 should always be, and why it has been pretty pedestrian for the the last half decade.

As Martin Brundle said - I think I like F1 2014 style. But I do miss a proper sounding motor.

That sounds like fun. Does the GSC Sync thing works to upgrade it to 1.15 and install the V12's?

I saw Sena win the '91 USGP in his MP4/6 and that sound is still with me to this day. Those things were incredible.
