Formula 1-fi (Read the First Post!) - Page 49

What an engine, amazing. Hope they succeed.

I read the news on another site. The engine is meant to be used for their LeMans prototype.

Note that it has a "better power to weight ratio" as compared to F1 engines, but F1 engines have more "BHP/litre".

Another important point to note is that this engine is meant to run for 24 hours (endurance) and F1 is allowed to run 5 engines for the entire season, about 4 races per engine, not counting sudden failures.

Factor in the rule that engines are sealed units and not allowed to be 'repaired' in season, F1 engines are still quite a feat of engineering.

I'd say the engine above rivals F1 in terms of its design and performance (if it can deliver). Had it not been used for a 24Hr endurance race, it might've been possible to extract some more power.

Red Bull

And Mercedes

... are checked in now.

The RB10 looks surprisingly understated, and actually pretty close kin to the McLaren (coincidence? Red Bull lost their chief aero man to McLaren, after all - although I don't think he's started yet), while the Merc appears closer to the Ferrari.

I don't know how fast it really is, but that Marcedes looks like a beast - there's just something intangible about it that speaks of speed. From the point of view of a not-Mercedes supporter, I kinda hope it isn't as good as it looks.

What happened to the Merc's nose in the pic? A different design?

Pretty sure it's just styling - looks pretty delicate though.

There's a sight I've been missing for... Wow, 5 years. The Iceman back in a Ferrari :L3000:

PS: People who were worried about the numbers not being prominent can relax, it appears.

I'm getting excited now, this is going to be quite a season I think.

mechanical failure he was fastest on track not that it say much. I don´t know what to expectwhich will make things super interesting. I don´t expect much real racing tbh though and really hope they manage to have the car hold up and not to much attrition.

Did anyone notice the right 'tusk' is longer?

Quote:
In order to meet the single lower nose tip regulation, the two tusks are of unequal length, so the longer one forms the mandatory nose tip, while the other is short enough to avoid being considered part of the nose tip by the regulations.

Talk about exploiting loopholes.

Here's the red bull's nose:

Reminds me of the Star Wars Medical Droid.

The new Double Diffuser, or doomed to be banned?

As a McLaren supporter, I really hope it both is as good as many think it is and is legal. But I suspect you can choose A or B and not both.

Wow Red Bull only completed like 24 total laps over the 4 days of testing, and all of the other Renault powerd teams didn't fair much better. I guess they are going to have a lot of sleepless nights back at the factory to sort the issues out.
