You have to feel for Jenson and now Fred. They must have been thinking "how big of a gamble can it be to sign for the second biggest name in F1?". And now they might be looking at finishing their careers solidly in the midfield (or even the the back field, if some of the teams don't make it to the grid this season). I hope McL-Honda have some serious goodness up their development sleeves by Barcelona.

It will be interesting to see how hungry and assertive Nico is this year without Spa-gate dogging him. I wonder if he will have his elbows out right from the start. I hope Ferrari has improved enough to be dicing with Williams. And who knows where RB stand at this point.

Nando it's a given. "No matter what decision I make it's going to be WRONG". He just happened to suck  the most abused WDC into his black hole of miserable luck this year. Sorry Jens, mi amigo, didn't mean to get any on ya!

I'd love to see Ferrari at least make some kind of showing this year. Williams being the team to watch at the  moment. Riciardo for sure, depending on how removed Newey actually is from the mix now. The merc brigade will be on edge. Going to be a real panic on to build a points gap early on if possible, he who panics less this year will win:)

That Nando is slow is not about a bad decision. It was his own fault he couldn´t beat Lewis.

As for this year it´s about the money and some new challenge perhaps. I doubt either Button or Alonso had any illusion of Mclaren Honda being able to compete on year one with a new engine.

Nando would have to go to Mercedes but then likely get beaten by Lewis again.

Don't forget that Brawn 09 was designed for Honda engine but was swapped for a Merc engine on the very last minute.

Alonso will not race at Australian Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso will sit out next weekend’s season opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. McLaren announced the news on Tuesday, despite insisting the Spaniard has been checked by doctors in the wake of his Barcelona testing crash and four days in hospital. The doctors found Alonso “asymptomatic of any medical issue,” McLaren said in a media statement, “they see no evidence whatsoever of any injury; and that they therefore describe him as entirely healthy from neurological and cardiac perspectives alike”.
...
The newly Honda-powered team said doctors want Alonso to avoid the possibility of a second concussion, or so-called second impact syndrome, “as is normal medical procedure when treating athletes after concussions”. McLaren said: “In order to limit those environmental risk factors, specifically, his doctors have advised that he should not compete in the imminent Australian grand prix meeting”.“Fernando has understood and accepted that advice, and the two McLaren-Honda cars will therefore be driven in Australia by Fernando’s teammate Jenson Button and the team’s test and reserve driver Kevin Magnussen,” the team announced. His “doctors are supportive of that ambition,” the team said, “satisfied as they are that he sustained no damage whatsoever during his testing accident”.
...
“Fernando’s doctors acknowledge that he feels fit and well, and that he regards himself as ready to race. And, that being the case, they are comfortable with the fact that he has already recommenced physical training, with a view to preparing for a return to the cockpit of his McLaren-Honda car for the Malaysian Grand Prix.”

I wonder if he can string out the concussion for the whole season and then grab Nico's seat for 2016. tongue.gif

I was suspecting that was the plan.

What kind of intrigues me here is the constant claims of "no damage" and then the concussion diagnosis. Perhaps someone ought to send Ronbo a copy of the NHL studies.

"A letter to Renault F1 chief Cyril Abiteboul has revealed the grid access conditions set by Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. A photo of the signed document emerged on social media on Wednesday, dating back to 2013, when Frenchman Abiteboul was boss of Caterham. It reads:

“Dear Cyril, Please be reminded that where possible, grid access passes should be used for celebrities or people of note or as always, really glamorous ladies.

“This is not so much a sporting matter,” Ecclestone added, “but a part of the show business of formula one.”

The Daily Mail said Ecclestone’s office declined to comment.
