Just got a pair of Monoprice 839

I just got a pair of Monoprice 839, and I'm really enjoying the sound so far (as well as the detachable cable, which is mainly why I got them since all previous headphones I've owned short at the jack). However, I'm having some comfort issues with them. The pads don't leave enough space for my large ears, since they are very thick, and the headband hurts on the top of my head.

 

I was thinking of getting some replacement pads, and seeing if I could devise some sort of pad for the headband (trying to keep my spending down to a minimum).

 

What would people recommend for replacement pads, and how do I get the pads on/off of the cans without ripping them or anything?

 

What do you think would be the cheapest way to soften the pinch from the top of headband on my head? For now I've been putting a thick wool sock on top of my head, but I obviously can't go out in public with that. Also, I have to readjust it every time I take my headphones off. There was a headband pad I saw online for ~$15, but I think I could make something myself for free/cheaper.

Yeah, I had seen that headband pad before, I was thinking about making something myself to save the money, but I might end up buying it anyways. It's my birthday soon so why not tongue.gif

 

I've been looking into replacement ear cushions and so far I've read that Shure 240 pads and Beyerdynamic 250 pads fit the 839s, what would people recommend? Are Shure 440 or 840 pads different/better?

 

I think I'd either want velour pads, or pads with more room inside the padding so that the padding isn't squished on top of my ear (my ears almost fit within the pads on the stock pads).

The Beyerdynamic DT 250 velour pads worked really well for me. That said, I found the soundstage of the 8323 to be extremely narrow causing them to sound quite congested to my ears and as a result I never use them. But they are definitely good for the price.
