That would probably be the massive bass EQ at work.

Do you have any information on the magnitude of the bass EQ that is being used?

The few impressions on the headphone have all been very positive, so regardless of whatever it may be, it's sounding like a great headphone. I don't give a crap about sheer technicality, as long as it sounds great. We can only have sooooo many high end headphones with the same exact frequency response, barring slight changes here and there.

Fostex has proven that you don't need to be part of the linear bandwagon to be considered amazing. More should follow suit.

Not saying the KS headphone will be high end, but an electrostatic that breaks from the norm is an interesting prospect.

Headphones like the HE-400 have been incredibly popular, and it's response is anything but linear. I really loved that headphone.

for anyone that has seen them, are they a 5 pin or 6 pin plug?

if you are using a kgsshv, you can add a jumper across the 130v zener

and get close to the right bias.

Drew Baird has the prototype. He would be the person who can answer these question. I heard them but did not see what the pin compliment was.

I'm guessing these could be using 5 pin pro-bias plugs but the stators designed to work at the mention slightly above Stax low-bias at 460v. Ain't 6 plug normal bias plugs completely discontinued from manufacturers?

Drew confirmed a while ago that it was the same plug as Stax pro bias.

Can you provide us with more details on how the KS sounded?  Can you compare them to the HE-500?

From their own specs:

Bass Boost. +9dB at 20Hz, +3dB at 100Hz

That is quite substantial.

I only listened at the meet and was really taken by the sound. They were very clean and transparent with good bottom end. I will be getting a pair to review when they come out but to compare to the he500 require some more time than I spent with them in NY.   The  stat is very promising and I was really enjoying what I heard.

The 3db boost at 100hz would more than likely be more noticeable a difference than the 20hz boost.

Pretty sure that 9db bump is PROBABLY cancelling out the typical sub bass roll off, and might equal to a few db boost from true linearity.

Of course, I'm speculating, but I don't see this being some basshead level bass boost. Just looking at 20hz roll offs from almost every can I can think of, this boost would be more benign than anything.

Just a vid of how it looks and swivels....

I'm getting anxious!

I do hope the headband isn't a problem. The second headphone's headband was coming off...

Though I am an SS amp kind of guy, if I could afford the tube amp combo, it's a much better deal, as you're essentially getting the headphone for $100, that or the amp for 50% off, depending on how you look at it. eek.gif

The headband still looks pretty disgraceful (I like how the pad was falling off), but at least the cups have a nice big diameter.  They look a little bigger than I was expecting.  Still hard to tell how deep they are though.

Also, I can only dream of one day being as white as that guy is at 1:17...

LOL

It's been mentioned on Moon Audio's blogs that the headband was placed on there just to have something for early listening demos. I'm sure the final version will be better.

The cups look fine to me.

I guess this is where King Sound got the inspiration for the headband.
