Faulty Westone 3

Currently have these IEMs and the left earpiece started to become very temperamental, they then went back to working perfectly well since then when i came to use them the other day the earpiece no longer works at all. Purchased these headphones in January 2012 so guessing they are no longer under warranty if past 1 year.

Are there any UK based companies who can repair these? or do they all have to be sent directly back to westone themselves for repair (even when no longer under warranty)

Your first port of call would be the place you bought them from.  If sympathetic they could offer a like for like replacement.  Out of curiosity where did you get them from?  I feel your pain incidentally.  Was loving my W3's until they went through the wash and didn't survive :) The highs were sparkling but no bass :(

If you bought it from an authorized dealer the warranty is usually good for 2 years.  I have owned mine for a little over 3 and recently they have started shorting out on the right side.  Appears to be from the wire near the Y split.  Contacted Westone and the best they could offer was to charge me $175 to replace them cause they said they dont service them.  3 years use out of a $400 iem is crazy and they want another $175 on top of that. These things were hardly used and when they were i treated them with loving care.  I sent them out to get recabbled using third party and notified Westone that i will not be supporting there company from now on.

They were purchased from iHeadphones, I did originally contact them when they became faulty and they told me that i would have to send them to be tested in belgium somewhere. I cant remember if this was testing from iHeadphones themselves or if the address was for Westone. But shortly after that they were working perfectly fine and have been since.

I guess i will have to try contacting them again and see what advice they can give. If no longer under warranty, do you know if there are other places that i would be able to send them off to or would they have to go directly back to westone?

Thanks for your reply

Any idea if it's cable related? ie if you touch the wire it cuts out?
