Help with Amplifier positioning on desk needed

Hey guys,

I have decided to use my wharfedale diamond speakers with my marrantz amp but I am having a hard time finding a place to put it. The only problem is that i need the volume control to be within hands reach at all times since I must adjust the volume very often. I tried to put it under my monitor, but it just looks off and raises the monitor too high up. The only option I see fit is to build a box underneath the desk big enough to fit the amp just underneath where i sit or to my left so that i can control the volume with my left hand a few centimeters from my keyboard. Where do you think is the best place to put it?

Not a good idea to put a monitor on top of a receiver. Don't block any of the venting because the air flow is necessary for cooling the electronics. And if you build a box, be sure to leave a few inches above the amp and some room behind (maybe leave the back open) for air flow.

Is your Marantz remote capable? I just keep my receiver remote on my desk.

I am aware of the cooling issue and that is another reason why I would rather not put the monitor on top of it. As for the box, I have to keep it open to connect the power and speaker cables. My amp does have a remote but it only works if there are no obstruction between it and the amp to function properly. It is no good for fine adjustments or to quickly turn up or down the volume so I wont be using it.

I am willing to help but you have to understand nobody knows your workstation... Desktop footprint, where the speakers are located? monitor size.

A picture worth more than thousand words....Pictures bro, pictures...

There's always room for imagination or changes... Get a new table, floor stands for the speakers to gain some extra space, etc...

Well, you don't seem very aware as you should not even be considering putting something like a monitor stand on top of the receiver venting. Most budget and mid-fi receivers depend on passive cooling, and that means the air has to be able to rise out of those vents. Overheating is the quickest way to shorten the life of your electronics. You'd be better off to sell your receiver and get a little desktop amplifier before doing that.

I am moving to a new house and will need a new desk and chair, which I currently don't have yet so pictures wont be possible. I could also get some drawers beneath the desk and place the amp on top of them. I guess I will have to buy the furniture and move to get a better feel of things but it is never too early to plan ahead.

This is what I have done with my gear, although mine is much smaller. The shelf is support on the front edge and the back. You could make a nice little one out of wood exactly to fit your stuff.
