Source is my cowon j3, and i really dont want to have amp as most of my lostening is in gym or treadmill. My music preferences are rap, male r+b, some 80s type rock, to a lil harder stuff like staind, saliva, lil dubstepp. I have owned sm3v2, asg-1.2, mg7, ety research hf5, miles davis, jvc 700, fx80, jvc 400s, ath cks 77, m50s, hd25s, ultrasone pro 900.
My favorite overall is sm3v2. My dream would be sm3 mids, bass of mg7or cks77, treble is least important, but liked pro900s orhd25s, and details of the ety research hf5.
I dont really want to go custom as i like the option of reselling or trading. Does this headphone exist.
Ps....looking for large, 3d soundstage (sm3 was very good here)
I really like fun and energetic, warmth, more subbass than midbass, and mids like sm3s.

New jvc 100/200

Fit ear
(akg and fit ear are lil more than i want to spend, but if the price is worth it i ca.)

He400 (is j3 strong enough to push these)

Is there any others i should consider? Iems id like $800 or less preferably, cans, $400

If you have the money I don't think you can go wrong with the FitEar TG334, its said to be the best universal you can get and not only in SQ but build quality as well.  The SM64 would also be good especially if you like the SM3 V2, I know I'm going to look into getting the SM64 or the new Vsonic V7007 aka GR08.

I'm leaning to sm64 as i absolutely love the sm3. Fitears are a lil out of range without. Senn 800 sounds intriguing, and i could get sm64, he400, and beyer dt1350 fpr same price as fit ears.

The Vsonics are said to be released around early March.

 

The SM64 seems like its a very good IEM with the wonderful mids that Earsonics is known for but they have better clarity and are more transparent.  I love the SM3 V2 and I'd love to have the SM64 but I'm going to wait and see if they come down in price from $500 closer to $400.

What do you mean, are you talking about the SM3 V2 or a revised SM64.

The revised sm64....the upgrade to the first batch that is supposed to be easier to drive (112 droped to 90ohms) and do somethin to treble....all future productions are revised

Ah, ok I didn't know that.  I saw one review where they said the treble was brighter than the SM3 which is fine as long as is not to bright.  The R-50 which is one of my favorite IEM's has brighter highs that I like but the highs on say the Heir 3.Ai are to bright for my taste.

I think i will get SM64s and Momentum blacks...

Then look for good deal on used jvc, dt 1350, and he400.

Can a cowon j3 push the he400

The J3 would be able to run the HE-400, but not to its full potential. I've heard very good things about the Magni + Modi combo though.

 

I got the DT 1350 over the Momentums because I didn't like the HD 25 1-II overall. If you want something with crazy sub-bass and possibly the best mids for the price, I'd look into the DT 1350.

 

One thing I don't get is: why do you want portable cans if you are getting an IEM in the first place? Wouldn't it just be better to get some [relatively] inexpensive IEMs for on the go, and have the HE-400 plus Magni/Modi for home use? My 2 cents anyway.

I like to experience different things. Sometimes in gym i wear my jvc hs 400 sometimes i wear fxt80s.i most likely wouldnt keep all the phones, but if i got the dt 1350s, id never be happy till i heard the moentums, and vice versa.then id sell or trade for other options.ill most likely get the sm64s and he400s for long haul, then experemint with others. illl get senn momentums 1st, only because i can usually find the dts in trader section.
