2 cable simultaneous break-in with this?

The HiFi 2400 from Ultrasone really are taking forever to break-in. On top of that, they gave me 2 cables. A 3.5mm and a 1/4 inch. Both have screw-in 3.5mm male terminations that preclude any other cables being used. Could I do this?
Amp > 1.4" to 3.5mm > coupler > 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm > headphones
For reference, this is the coupler: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007FGUF/ref=gno_cart_title_1

You could, but why add more connectors to the mix?  If you have not already found that your headphones sound the way you prefer, then perhaps it is just the headphone.  No amount of break-in will "fix" a headphone.  Break-in may alter the sound signature a tad in that it often reduces sibilance in the high end, but rarely if at all will it magically make the headphone sound better.  That all comes down to taste and it may just be possible you prefer a different sound signature.

Why types of music do you listen to most?  What gear do you use the most to listen to said music?

Ok, thanks for the input. I now believe these headphones are defective and will call Ultrasone first thing Monday morning. I've been feeding it constant signal for months and still weak bass with a brittle sound. Ridiculous, right? It was this post that clued me in.

Is the pair you have the Pro version or the HFi version?

Try listening to Rotorblade by Juno Reactor, about a minute and thirty seconds in there should be some bass.  Do you hear some serious thump?  Even something like Insomniac by Green Day should give you a good sense of what the headphone is doing in bass.

Yeah, it's just bad sound. When I listen to Thievery Corporation it sounds like someone stole the bass. I don't mind though if I can get a replacement. These things happen.
