Sounds like they would basically be the same setup, only difference an internal and external amp. Huge difference between the DACs?

As far as connecting the Xonar D1 to the E09K, would I just run the jack labeled "front" to the "line in" of the E09K? I'm used to using a line out so I just want to confirm.

Also I'm guessing I would just plug my mic into the farthest left jack. I just wanted to know why this jack is also labeled as a "SPDIF Out"? What is the use and why would they use this and the "mic/line in" on the same jack?

The Xonar D1 CS4398 DAC should be good enough for most people, you may not even be able to hear a difference between the two DAC chips.

The connection is like you said, Xonar D1s line-out (headphone-out) jack to the AUX-IN in on the E09K.

I guess they save manufacturing costs having one jack do two functions.

It's a common practice to double up a jack with the mini SPDIF out these says. Many laptops do it with the headphone plugin.

No, the out on the back. The front jack will likely have some interference. Lots do, it seems.

Haha this is getting confusing. I do mean the back, however, no jack is labeled as "line out" on the back. I was expecting to have a jack labeled "line out" which is why I just wanted to confirm if I use "front out" on the the back? Is the "front out" on the back of the card basically the "line out" ?

The 3.5mm "Headphone/Front output jack" which is were you plug in the headphones or the 2.0/2.1 speakers.

So it is the "Front out", as the manual labels it.
