Just got the packaged from amazon and was pretty excited about it, unfortunately I think I got a defective one, the right ear has a severely low volume compared to the left ear. Don't know if that's the way it should be or I just got a defective one.

You need to use one of the cord extension because its setup to work with a balanced setup not a regular mp3 player or phone. Look for the plug that has 2 lines on the gold plated part not 3 lines and hook that up and you'll have perfect sound from both sides.

RE262 has balance cable (3.5mm TRRS 4 pins plug like smartphone headset instead of TRS normal 3 pins plug). So you need to use it with the correct extension cable to make it sounds normally on typical source.
I use the white colored adapter because I wear them over my ears. Note though if you use the white colored adapter the L/R channel is switched between the ear pieces. The right ear piece (has R on it) goes into the left ear and the left ear piece (has L on it) goes into the right ear, this way the headphones fit snug into your ear.
I just got my 262s about 3 weeks ago and love them. They are a great pair of headphones.

I like to wear my RE-272 over-the-ear, but I don't like the looks of the white adapter, so I listen to them with the channels swapped using the regular black adapter LOL.
Thanks for the advice guys! It now works perfectly. I'm a little bit new to this (using a cx 880 previously), first time i've encountered the extension cord actually affecting the balance of the sound.
Haha. It does look weird but I don't really care too much about the looks. How does the black adapter swap the channels in the ears?

Sorry for the late reply, didn't see this post before!
Actually, the white adapter is the one that swaps the channels, but when you wear this particular IEMs over-the-ear you have to invert them (i.e. put the R-labered earpiece in your left ear, and viceversa) because of their unusual shape. That's why if you use the black adapter wearing it over-the-ear you end up with swapped channels
