New to the whole audiophile experience for the most part.
Bought myself a pair of AKG K550s. I was aware of the resonant peak issue but pricepoint, good soundstage and balanced sound with sparkling highs sounded good.
I've used them for several hours now. Mostly listened to techno, but also some early 1990s rock and contemporary pop.
I've heard significantly faithful and detailed treble, but in the upper bass I do not detect just a sibilance. I detect a deletion in whole frequencies of detail. It is to the point where peaks and accents in drum kicks are wholly inaudible and could be mistaken for nothing but a transient pulse.
I've compared them to a few other sound sources to verify.
Do these cans just more need burn-in? I am aware they are advertised as a little bass light, but will AKG really release a $300 pair of headphones with excellent build-quality, balanced sound, but no detail imaging in entire frequency ranges?
