Are the W4R's a true upgrade from the BA200?

I've had the BA200s for approx a month now and love the fit and sound. My only gripe about them, is the cord (I think that is the general consensus too). Anyways I was able to get a killer deal on the W4Rs through a military discount. Is this a true upgrade (I know quality and it's a 4 BA driver makes it superior, but mainly in regards to sound) or is it a completely different sound? I'm curious as if there would be a purpose to keep both? How do they compare and what's the W4Rs sound signature like? It was more of an impulse order if you couldn't of tell. So far I've purchased 4 sets of headphones (1 can and 3 IEM) and 1 amp (E07K) since joining these message boards. Just trying to find my way.

I've never heard the BA200. I bought the W4R the day it was released and never looked back. For me it is the best in universals and still is. For that reason, from Jan 2012 to date I've not purchased a single IEM and probably wont until something goes wrong with.

 

Mind you with the W4R, getting that proper fit (as with any other IEM) is imp. for you to get the best out of it.

 

Now after a year, I've started getting an itch for custom IEM. If at all, I'll have to save some money and get the JH16 and be a happy camper.

For now my hunting begins.

Its a good upgrade over the BA200, I'd say sound quality wise the BA200 is about 80% of the W4 so its like 20% better.  That might not sound like a lot but you'll be able to notice a good difference.  The W4 has a larger soundstage and an over all fuller sound, after listening to the W4 for awhile go back and listen to the BA200 and they'll sound a bit thin compared to what they used to sound like to you I bet.  I think its a good upgrade and you should be quite happy with them.

Because those are all IEM's I've owned and I've only borrowed the W4 from a friend for a little while but I might put it in there sometime.

I see. Based on your impressions, it would probably be slotted in between the SM3 v2 and BA200? Where does the SM3 v2 have the W4 beat in your opinion?

 

Maybe the OP would appreciate impressions since the SM3 v2 is in the same price range as the W4.

The reason I like the SM3 a bit more than the W4 is because of the soundstage and more specifically the 3D imaging.  The 3D presentation is just excellent imo and music just surrounds you unlike an other IEM I've heard.  The W4 might be a little wider sounding over all but it doesn't have the same 3D imaging plus the mids on the SM3 I like a bit better than the W4 though both have forward mids.
