Impedance 16 vs 32 ohms

Thread Starter

I have been test listening a big number of small inner earphonnes, over all 32 ohms seems to sund better than 16 ohms with a few exceptions, like Beyer Dynamic DTX-101 which have only 12 ohm.

Is there any technical person here that can explain if the impedance have anything to do with this or not?

Aren't most in-ears 16 ohm?

They're all over the place, though 16 ohms is pretty common.

Anyway, there's not really much of any strong correlation between impedance and sound quality for in-ears or other kinds of headphones, not to mention causation.  The impedance is mostly just a result that falls out of the way they're constructed.  Too many other factors are much more significant.

Lower impedience for me sounds better when amped with a FiiO.

What amp are you using to drive your IEMs?

A little portaple FiiO, the E11. Hold a charge well and relly bangs for house and hip hip. I can listen to the ie80s with out the amp.

The E11 has certainly a relatively low output impedance. However, there's been claims that the E11 can have overload and clipping issues with < 32 ohm loads.

I don't think it means anything on it's own.

My UM3X is 56 Ohms and will blow your head off

My JH16 I believe was 16 or 18 Ohms.  Also blow your head off.

Grado GR 8 was 100 Ohms but GR10 was 32 Ohms but they were same efficiency.

So, yes, too many other variables, sensitivity, etc to make any analogy.
