How to increase bass without losing detail on mids&highs?

So I have the Koss Pro DJ100's and they work really well but I've recently tried my friend's ATH-M50 which were okay (a bit too harsh on the treble for me) but the bass sounded really good. I could feel the bass and I've been trying to replicate it using an equalizer but whenever I put up my bass, the sound quitens down whenever a bassy hit occurs and a lot of details are lost throughout the whole song in general. Is there any cheap way to keep everything the same but just significantly increase the bass?

I'm not sure of where to post but since I'm on a computer I'm going to guess it is okay to post this here.

Well, there's always going to be some detail overshadowed by the bass when you turn it up high, no matter where in the chain you do it.

But subtractive equalization might fix part of the problem you're having. Rather than boost the bass, turn down every other frequency and then turn the volume up.
