For those of you who are familiar with the Xuelin iHiFi players (760, 812v2, and 960), I need some advice.  I am considering buying one of these players, but I am trying to figure out which one represents the best bargain, based on current price ranges.  I am looking at these players in terms of sound quality, reliability and best overall value for the price.  If one assumes that the 760 model can be purchased (including shipping) for US ~$200, the 812v2 for ~$270, and the 960 (mod with lme 49990) for ~$380, which model would you recommend and why?   Or should I forego all the Xuelin players and look elsewhere for a better valued player?  Thanks so much.

I have the moded Ihifi960 and I love it too bits here is what I love about it:

- Optical and True Line out? Coaxial Out? Winner!!

- Sound imo is clean, very neutral with wide-ish soundstage and pairs nicely with my warmish IEMs

- Good power to drive 300ohms cans for comfortable volumes

- Built like a tank

- Scanning my 64gb flac sd card is instantaneous

What I dont like:

- new mod only gives about 6-7 hours battery life

- UI is simple (but works) and My albums are not in alphabetical order (this is my major gripe)

I would really like to see comparisons Vs the X5 as its in the same price range

I cant as I bought it with the mod..I think if you buy the Ihifi960 now..its all modded by Xuelin...

and i have never heard the stock one but from project86 he rates the original IHIFI960 SQ highly, apparently the mod improves the SQ, by how much I dont know

So from what I can tell from other threads and previous reviews on these Xuelin players, it looks to me that the 812v2 and 960 are on a much different level (ie, much better) than the 760 model.  I guess my question is:  Except for the coaxial/optical line outs on the 960, is there enough other difference between the 812 and 960 (in terms of sound quality, reliability, build quality) to justify the US ~$100 price difference?  I really like the 960 model, but I'm afraid my current budget may limit me to the 812 model.  So, if the difference in the two is well worth the cost, then I may hold off until I can ear/save up the difference.  Thanks.

Project86 did say the difference were minute, but the extra price hike was justifiable but mind that was with the older ihifi960.. Modded 960 should be alot better?

Okay, so I went ahead an ordered the ihifi 960 and hopefully I will get it in about 2-3 weeks (traveling from China to Texas...).  Based on Nazrin313's comments, it appears that the 960 reads 64 gb micro sd cards quite well, so I will get one of these this weekend while it is on sale here at a local electronics store (US $29.99 after rebate).  I saw one post in another thread re: IEMs and the 960.  Right now, I have the following IEMs and I was wondering if anyone had any experience or opinions on how these might pair with the 960.  Thanks in advance for any insight/input.  I have Westone 2, Westone 4, UE 10, and Etymotic ER-4.  Thanks again.

congrats on the purchase and I hope you enjoy like us 960 owners...

You mentioned about the sd card scanning and yes I can vouch for that, I added 6 new albums plus the whole Nero Discography last night, and guess what? Pop the SD card in..and its there..INSTANTLY! Funny when I read all these DAPs being talked about, they all scan the sd card pretty long, some to 2 mins? That will be annoying as hell..

And talking about IEMs, synergy with my Inear SD3 is really good. Soundstaging, Instrument separation, Bass..owh God the bass...Gotta love that. Being that the 960 has a neutral signature, it pairs well with warmer IEMs.

As per two posts above, I have Westone 2, Westone 4 and Etymotic hf5 and I prefer the sound of these more balanced iems with my 960 than warmer iems.

Not to say warm iems are not good with it because they are, the strength of the 960 for me is the balance. It tends to control any iem and balance it out.

Even my Hippo Vb's, the bass is tightened up significantly with way more control. So I am saying the player tends to slightly neutralize all my iems and for me this is a great thing.

Thanks nazrin313 and Skullophile for your feedback.  It looks like I'll be in good shape with the IEMs I have and it will be fun comparing them all with this player.

Thats great to hear, but the only other iem i have is the neutral meelec a161p and it was a lil too bright for me and had to use my tube amp to calm things down. Maybe i prefer a warm sig?

While waiting for the 960 player to arrive, I have been reading over the posts in this thread to get a feel for possible problems with the player.  I see where tkteo has had problems with micro sd card use; it's not clear to me if tkteo is having problems with just one card or several...  In any event, has anyone else had problems with the micro sd cards and is there a need to format the card in any particular way?  Thanks.

Oh, by the way, has anyone else with the ihifi 960 had any particular problems with the player, and if so, can you let us know how you were able correct the problem(s)?  Thanks.  I'm really hoping this player is very reliable and sturdy.....

So far just one from me, sometimes like once in a blue moon,it couldn't read a track from the sd card.. Next track ok, last track ok, but a particular track.. My fix was to go back to album view and pick that track and all is well.. Funny that..
