this is what I keep getting

Bootloader installation requires you to provide a copy of the original Sandisk firmware (bin file). This firmware file will be patched and then installed to your player along with the rockbox bootloader. You need to download this file yourself due to legal reasons. Please browse the Sansa Forums' or refer to the manual and the SansaAMS wiki page on how to obtain this file.
Press Ok to continue and browse your computer for the firmware file.

There's a zipped download link for it on the SansaAMS wiki, in the list of models in the "installation" section.

I can now get it to say firmwire update in progress, then I turn it back on and no rockbox....this is so frustrating!

Do you have administrator permissions in Windows? It's been a while, so I'm not sure running Rockbox Utility as administrator is enough or if you have to enable the administrator user first.

Windows silently protects some modifications to USB devices for normal users as protection against viruses, so the utility has no way of knowing whether the bootloader was installed or not.

You don't need Admin for this.  My guess is that tanner is pointing the installer at his hard disk or maybe the player's SD card rather then the player itself and now has a C:\.rockbox folder on his PC ;)

I don't remember if it was exactly the same problem, but I remember needing admin to get it working it on my Sansa c200. Of course, that doesn't mean it's the same with the Clip+.

You need to now install Rockbox firmware on your player.

Simply download the firmware for your player and unzip it to the root of your player once you boot up it will show Rockbox.

It sounds like you're putting the firmware file on the player itself?

Excuse my ignorance but where should I be putting the Firmwire? People say the root directory but I'm not sure what is meant by that?
