Sennheiser Momentum impressions thread

Thanks for the response bro.actually I tested both already but not at the same time so kinda difficult to compare.

I'm not a bassheavy. I like clarity, thick, n fuller in midrange n vocal.so momentum suited me?

But then I also concern about the bass speed n impact e.g. at double pedal drum in rock music. Will I be disappointed with momentum in that section?

When I had the momentum, I didn't specifically listen for the bass speed & impact, but they are very technically capable performers with great clarity, so I doubt they will have any issue with that.

You may also want to look into the new offerings: NAD Visio HP50 ($300) vs Kef M500 ($300) vs AKG K545 ($200). I haven't heard em, but user dweaver compares the AKG K545 favorably against the momentum & HP50.

I finally got a pair of my own (thank you santa) and am delighted.

I'm just wondering, what took Sennheiser so long to make them? At last someone on the board must have said "we should make such an urban thing". Then they have too much pride in their products and fame to come out with an ordinary bass-pumping wow-ing sound and they have too much of an earnest attitude to not find the best designers. It's impressive how they managed to get such a sound out of cans that are targeted for use by mobile devices (meaning lower impedance, lesser power, mp3/aac files). They managed to open a new source of material suppliers, apparently (or did they have leather and metal in other products?) They made a really gorgeous piece of design, both in sound and looks.

So if they can make this, why didn't they do that earlier?
And what else are they capable of?

It was hard to find a place to demo here too, stateside, but was finally able to find one the other day. Let's just say my eyes were opened (so were my ears) and couldn't believe how good they sounded right out of the box. The place had just received them and had not even burned them in or set them up on their headphone demo station.

nad visO HP 50 would be a good replacement for the Momentum.

I took the plunge guys, after demoing them. I (gulp!) returned my Momentums yesterday and ordered a red HP50. I had such a great deal with the Momentums too that I had to add more money (in my case, rewards certs at Best Buy - yes, they carry them now, finally!) to get the HP50s.

I bought a pair of on-ears last week. Up until this purchase I've been listening to my music on a pair of HD 25-1 (85% of my listening time) and HD 600 (15% of my listening time) exclusively. I've owned both for about 8 years, a long time. I produce music as well. I've been using AKG K271 in my studio exclusively for almost 10 years. <---- These are accurate.

From what I can tell, after 4 hours of listening time... Momentums have either recessed mids or gain in the lows if compared to the above. I'm not hearing details I can hear using my HD 25-1. I want to give these a chance, but the stress on the lows is bothering me.

I suspect they won't get any better for you. I have the full size Momentums and while they're great for thumping trance they lack resolution big time for any other genre. Simply put these are lifestyle headphones, not pro audio headphones, and as a studio user you will not get what you're looking for with these.

Yea, clearly, the marketing backing this product is aimed at young yuppies. These seem to be fashion accessories as much as listening tools. That's cool, as long as they sound good. Personally, I'm a listening tool guy.

I've been a working semi-professional DJ for 15 years. My HD 25-1 are working headphones. It's a psychological thing. I've heard 10s of thousands of songs on these headphones. My mind is anchored on their sound. I listen to a lot of techno myself. I've heard thousands of open and closed hi-hat, clap, cow bell, and cymbal arrangements in my life... these percussion sounds all land in the mid-range. Bottom line, these sounds aren't as clear on Momentums. I'm not saying Momentums suck, they don't. I will say they aren't as accurate as HD 25-1.

The HD25's... are suppose to isolate noise extremely well which makes them very ideal for a DJ especially.

This is correct... The HD 25 series were designed for broadcasting and monitoring. Excellent for DJ use. See my above post. They do isolate well. They do block out club surroundings well (very loud and obnoxious atmosphere). While at my day job I often can't hear people speak to me with them on at low volumes.
