whats wrong with my ultrasone 580? help !!!

recently got the ultrasone 580 in hand and been using it for 2 days.  i have to say, i am dissapointed. i found no difference between my generic $8 headphone with the 120$ ultrasone 580 except for the case that the bass is a bit better than the generic one. i dont feel any extra effect like 3d effect or 5.1 effect. it is to be admitted that i am very very noob. is there anything um missing like any sort of modification? do i need extra sound card? i use motherboard built in sound card

thanks

Do you have iPod or at least decent smartphone to try them?

Sometimes headphones tend to sound only so-so with relatively low volume on cheap integrated audio with stock settings.

Headphones don't make things 3d or 5.1 or anything like that. They are two little speakers. Not 5 speakers. Surround is software emulation.

Garbage in garbage out applies here. If you're playing back compressed/streamed or other low quality media files or content, you're just going to hear even more how bad they are. Also, poor source reveals itself through better headphones. So it will just continue to sound bad.

Go to HDtracks.com and listen to some of their samples. See what you think then. If it still sounds nasty, then maybe get yourself a usb DAC/AMP like a Fiio E10, so that you're not using the onboard motherboard junk of the computer.

And for the rest, start reading about everything possible. You seem to have bought into something without even knowing the difference between software and real world hardware. Might want to fix that.

Very best,
