Samsung set the headphone amp gain turned down more than they need to on the Note 2. If you are not afraid to root your phone, try the gain control conf hack to up the headphone amp output:
Using the "Normal Volume Mod" file definitely helped with my Ultrasone HFI-780s and my Note 2. I suspect you might not need any more than that to get it close to your previous iPhone output experience.
