Denon D5000s - Left Channel Doesn't Work

I shouldn't say doesn't work entirely, but if I don't use the headphones for a good period of time (say a day or two) the left channel starts to work again for about 30 minutes or so, then it just completely stops working.  Sometimes when I fiddle with my amp and turn it up higher I can bring the sound back into the left earcup, but it only works so many times.  I don't think I've messed with the connector or anything, it doesn't seem to be damaged at all.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?  And if I could maybe fix this problem myself?

If the signal is gone, try to wiggle the connector on the jack and see if that fixes anything. If that doesn't work try to wiggle where to cable enters the cup.  Where are you located?

I'm in Canada - about right above MN.  I tried messing around with the wire, no dice.  The weird thing is, is it just fades out like something just can't take it anymore.

I'd try to do a simple recable, or there are services like BTG audio that do repairs if you're not up to doing it yourself.

How can you be sure that re-cabling will fix the problem?  You're sure it has nothing to do with something in the ear cup?

It's hard to tell for certain because the issue isn't known. Headphones are pretty simple. Basically two wires go into the cup and touch the driver element, which make the sound. The plug connection could be bad, the wire could be bad, the connection to the driver could be bad, or the driver itself could be bad. It's really hard to tell, especially given the way it is acting.

I wish you were closer to me, I wouldn't mind popping it open and giving it a check-up. A big problem is, that if the sound comes and goes, it would be hard to pick out the specific problem without having experience. You could post in the DIY forum, and see if someone with a little know-how lives close to you.
