I mistook your blue HE-400s for 500s.

Ahh now it makes sense.

Loving my He500 more after the mod on the ear pads.

A big thanks to Jerg and Modular...

Expect some up-to-date measurements (with both HE400 and HE500) somewhat soon!

Feel free to grab any and all measurements from my HE-400 (of course).

I might have to snag a pair of these pads with the BASS VENTS installed :O

I am glad Modulor (and jerg) were able to do another group buy. I just paid him to get on the list. Now to see what all this fuss is about. :)

Modulor Jergpads V2.5 measurements (on HE500 and on HE400) posted! Also some rudimentary analysis of the measurements from me included.

Just a heads up - I'll be wrapping up the invoicing today on the jergpad group buy so that I can order the supplies tomorrow.  For those interested, please send me a PM with the requisite ordering information found on the OP by 12:00a Midnight.  Thanks again to everyone for making this happen!

I find it very interesting how the HE-500 with backvent mod has no sub-bass roll-off yet the HE-400 with backvents has a major roll-off..

Indeed; we've been discussing it a fair bit over the measurement threads and the conclusion was that HE500's driver diaphragms are much more adequately air-damped, so they are less affected by changes in external factors.

In that light then, the backvent mod and the sub-bass mod are quite optional for HE400 owners; I personally like how it sounds with the fully decked-out pads more, but it may not be the case for others. With HE500 it's no-brainer to have fully modded pads, heck all my modding decisions have been based on subjectively improving how my HE500s sounded.

Also, note that the "major roll-off" really doesn't start until <30 Hz on the HE400s with open backvents; in fact, there is a sub-bass hump between 30 Hz and 60 Hz which is very fun to listen to in practice.

Interesting conclusions about the driver differences. Do you think having the HE-500's driver more 'air-damped', or alternatively the HE-400's driver less air damped, could be the reason why it has that tighter more controlled bass that people prefer over the HE-500?

Sure the slight hump would be fun to listen to, but I wouldn't take that at the expense of loosing extension below 30Hz. I would assume the best config for an HE-400 users would be to use the sub-bass mod without backvents, which coincidentally is what I've been using since the early days of this mod. If the listener wants the little bump between 30 and 60 Hz then perhaps EQ would be the way to go..

The sub-bass mod would be taping the pads to the cans, right?  I've tried that, no difference.

I dunno, the backvents mod mainly improves upon the openness of the soundstage (it really widens the sound up), I would say for that alone it is worth doing.
