Not to mention that the HE-500 hardly has a roll-off with the vent mod. Only the HE-400 suffers from that.

Indeed. I stated this before but possibly in another thread, that IMO the pros much outweigh the cons with the vent mod on HE500s, it was something I devised specifically at the HE500s.

Just wash them thoroughly once every 4 months in warm water and mild soap, and they should last a while.

would washing them rip the holes on the inside?

I can definitely attest to that. Rear vents all the way on the 500's, not my cup of tea on the 400's.

I'm worrying about this too. On one of my pads the white foam is literally bursting out of the holes, perhaps because they were cut too big. I'm a little worried with time the pads will rip, and they may not make it unscathed through a washing.

FWIW, I washed my homemade JergulorX pads and they held up very well.  The holes on yours look a little bigger (less pleather between them), but it's all surprisingly tough.  Just be gentle when washing, and let dry thoroughly (I gave mine 24 hours).

You can actually wait for 24 hours for them to dry? Do you switch to your HD650's while waiting or do you go abstinent?

LOL.  Didn't have the HD 650s then, and I'm pretty sure my wonderful wife (no, seriously; I like to tease her, but she's the best) had something for us to do to distract me.  Maybe I listened to the Q701s or - unlikely - the SR225s.  Or my Phiaton earphones on the C5 while I was doing some chore or another.

Actually, it may have been that waiting period that inspired me to stick my Q701s' pads on the HE-500s.  Come to think of it, I'm sure it was.  And, as much as I like my JergulorX pads, I really like the Q701s.  Ordered a pair just to do a permanent mod.

How 'bout dem apples ;)

You use dem Apple EarPods?  :D

So the Q701 pads fit properly on the HE-500's? Or do you have to break out the chainsaw first and trim a bit here and there?

Dead simple mod.  Remove the HE-500 mounting rings, use carpet tape to permanently attached the Q701 pads, et voila.  I used simple double-stick tape when I was testing the concept.  Cleaned up easily so I could put the pads back where they belong.  The Q701 pads may be a little stiff for some, but they tend to mold to your head after a while, and the angle is nice.  The drivers are further away from ones ears compared to jergpads.  I did do the jergpad back vent mod, but that's easily undone or taped over.

You're tempting my evil hacker side to come out and manifest itself on HE pads.

Good!  About freakin' time.  I thought I was going to have to ask Snowden where you live and come there with a cattle prod.

How's the long distance rates to Moscow? If he answers the phone, will Putin be listening in?

Where did you get the Q701 pads. A quick look at Amazon and Google bore no fruit. I don't want to get funky knockoffs.
