In fact they seem a lot like the stiff velour pads . If someone hadn't told me they were jergpads I would have mistaken them for stock velour. It kind of boggles my mind. I'm thinking it may be because they've been outside in the mailbox all day, so maybe the cold weather is to blame. I'm hoping with time and heat they'll get softer.

Sound wise, they sound identical to my personal made jergpads I did many months back, but of course they feel and look much more professional. The current version of the mod has come a long way compared to v1 which I did. I opted to not do the back vent mod because I want full bass extension so I taped the entire circumference down with the provided tape, sub-bass seems improved. I think my attempt at the sub-bass mod with my older pair wasn't the best.

Overall very happy with my jergulors :) I've already found a new home for my old pair, in a drawer!

Hifiman pleathers have heat-activated foam so yeah, just wear them and they soften up like magic.

I just took them off my head, and yep they're noticeably softer already. That's a relief!

Btw these pads reminded me of how easily dust and lint stick to the Hifiman velour. It's not even 20 minutes and they've attracted some dust.

Are all of you using the vent mod for the he-400?

Not me. I prefer greater lower bass extension over a slight bump in soundstage openness. The HE-400 is already a very open sounding headphone as is.

The 50Hz rumble is nice, but the hollowness isn't. I feel like the latest revision of the mod (with the outside holes) probably helps keep the pad from sounding cavernous with the HE-400. Never tried it myself though...

Can I order a set of Jergpads from you for my HE-500's? If so, tell me with a PM or otherwise how much and how to send it.

Thanks...

Hey, Matt... are you ready for Monday night? What a year!!

Do you think I posted my request for the modified Jergpads to the right guy? Whatever his name is. I sure would like to get some of those pads!

Have you got the new Mr. Speakers yet?

Skooks,  PM modulor for jergpad if he's still willing to do a pair for you.

my jergpads arrived,

but due to family traveling. I have to watch over a puppy. Don't feel like risking bringing all my audio equipment over to the house I'm staying at (belive me, I've had bad luck with pets destroying my stuff).

I guess it can wait.

Noooo.  Just pack things up careful when not in use.  Try the pads out.  :D

Just installed my Jergpads. Much smoother presentation overall. Very nice!!

I may remove the vent mod however. The HE-500 struggles maintaining sub bass as is, and a roll off only makes it worse. I'll need to see if the 50hz boost is worth it to me, since I already add boost with my T amp.

I do already feel less inclined to use tone control as much, so these definitely have a noticeable (but still small in the grand scheme of things) impact within the first 10 minutes.

I agree. Just got these in as well, and overall smoother. I actually wore them backwards after installing them, and started hearing all these details I've not heard before in my songs, and I was like , "I don't remember hearing all these details even with my HD800!" Then I realized they were on backwards, and it just goes to show how our brain and ears get used to sounds we are very familiar with.

If you don't have a way to boost bass in the subbass/midbass region in your setup, or prefer soundstage over accuracy, keep the vent mod.

If you do, don't use it. I find the tape with no vent mod to offer a good compromise. The pleasant midbass boost is no longer there, and soundstage does decrease slightly, but the HE-500 sounds more like a monitor now. It is a flatter, more even, deeper extended boost when I add it on my own.

Much thanks to Jerg and Modulator for making these happen.

I find the vent mod to be really nice with movies and live/vocal/instrumental music, where air and a sense of "out of the head" enhances the experience. Yeah if you use the headphones more for music where bass accuracy is necessary, and openness is not, then you can try omitting the step.
