I tend to think you get a colder and more spacey sound signature. That's what I found with the j$ for example.

Took 1h40m but I finally got the earpad slant mod (theorycrafted earlier today) done.

I really like it! Centerstage is tremendously improved (much moreso than the backvents alone which only added a degree or two of angling), and there is a greater sense of immediacy to vocals and instruments. Everything else sounds the same, no weird change in tonality or anything.

Photos to follow in a bit...

Here's a newly released album that has become part of my sub-bass reference material.

Bloop - Entheomorphic

Tracks 1 and 4 are awesome for testing this, Especially track 1.

Really, really detailed subterrainean bass with fundamentals down to 30hz! :basshead:

The sound stage width must be slightly reduced?

I was expecting it to be reduced, but turns out not really. If there is a soundstage width reduction then it is negligible, because I can't pick it out (listened through some binaural recordings).

What has changed about the soundstage is the directionality of sound. A lot of cues in music that previously originate from the direct sides now shift forward a little.

One of the few flaws with the HE-500 can indeed be the lack of focused center stage and to some degree depth.

Well, after that report I'm really tempted.  Thanks for the quick photo update.

You rock, Handy Boy!       j/k ;)

Not quite as angled, but I've been using an angled mod pretty much since day 1. Simply stuck in the foam ring folded in half that was salvaged from the pleather pads.

Woo WA22 fixed both of that flaws for me, but then I lose a bit of bass impact in comparison to when driven by Emotiva...

The issue with that along with all other naturally-angled pads available is that they are all too thick. Also, having those foam insert rings in there can sometimes really irritate the tips of the ear (for those with medium~large sized ears).
