Hello Head-fiers!

Sennheiser has just launched its own iPad app / e-magazine called "Blue Stage" which examines sound from a different perspective in each monthly issue. For further details and pointer to the FREE app on the iTunes Store, visit www.sennheiser.com/bluestage

Below is the press release:

Audio specialist Sennheiser showcases its passion for sound through its new digital magazine, the "Blue Stage" iPad app, which offers interactive storytelling coupled with explorative navigation. A new edition is released every month, examining subject of sound from a different perspective. The Sennheiser iPad app is free and is available now from the iTunes store.

"Each month the subject of sound is given a new twist," explains Uwe Greunke, director of strategic marketing at Sennheiser. "Readers of 'Blue Stage' can expect inspiring stories delivered in an informative and innovative way. 'Blue Stage' is designed to be a focal point for both long-standing and aspiring sound enthusiasts." The first edition of the digital magazine focuses on recordings which take place outside of the studio - from a bamboo orchestra in the Solomon Islands, to kitchen staff singing in Namibia. Sade’s producer Stuart Matthewman, aka "Cottonbelly," and Adam Ficek from Babyshambles both reveal the tricks of their trade. In addition, there are do-it-yourself tips for music recording at home. The second edition of "Blue Stage" examines the role of DJs, such as Bob Sinclar, and the work they do. The third edition will explore the route artists take in order to make their way to the top.

Something different every month
As well as showcasing captivating stories on the subject of sound, features such as an integrated audio player enable the reader to listen to tracks that reflect the topic of each edition. A playlist also suggest further recommended tracks for separate download. Each month a special prize, unavailable for purchase, will be up for grabs under the headline of "Money can't buy." In the first edition, an emerging new band will have the opportunity to win a microphone set--including support from a Sennheiser sound engineer--for their recording.

Simple and innovative operating system
This innovative publishing concept available via the Apple Newsstand is very user-friendly. The user is automatically notified when a new edition is uploaded each month and can then immediately access all content. Each edition is a new "subject platform" for a particular sound experience and can be opened with a horizontal swipe. The user can browse previous editions with a vertical swipe. In contrast to other digital magazines, this means that the reader can seamlessly navigate back and forth between editions.

Really looking forward to reading this. Time to get another iPad I guess. :D

Please release an app for Windows RT!  I know that probably won't happen but it'd be really nice.

I posted this up the other day and having used the app...all I can say is that it's really not what I expected. The music part won't play and the videos have no sound either. This is on my ipad mini, haven't tried it on my full size ipad. Layout is disconcerting and can only be used in landscape mode...which I hate.

Expected a tad more from Sennheiser than this.

And do I need iOS 5 for Newsstand? I haven't used this crap iPad in a year..

Tried it on my main iPad and the music works and the videos play, however the above still stands - Terrible layout and hard to navigate / read any of the stories. Couple that with the fact that content is not enough and it seems each issue will be geared to a very specific area - i.e recording studios in this issue. So how many issues do we have to wade through to get content for any one area of interest?

Well...I didn't find it hard to navigate at all. It is reminiscent of Microsoft's metro interface, which I like a lot. The content (which wasn't extensive) didn't really interest me at first glance but I still went through the whole thing. I actually enjoyed reading/watching/listening to content of the first issue. I can't wait for the Waru Nonoasi Bamboo Orchestra's first record! This is all for commercial purposes, but at least it was enjoyable. There's even a contest to win a set or mics! Give it a try!

The next issue is about DJs so I bet they'll be promoting the Amperior or HD 25-1 II.

We're looking into this. Time and resources permitting, the app will be made available for other platforms.

Love the app. Works flawlessly on my iPad 2. I love the sample tracks wondering what are the titles and artists name? Especially track 2.
