FiiO E17 with Medium quality MP3s?

Hey everyone,

Please forgive my ignorance as I know almost nothing about headphone amplifiers but I'm always interested in improving my listening experience. I currently own the ATH-M50's and was looking into getting a FiiO E17 and was wondering whether the upgrade in sound quality (running on a Macbook) would be noticeable on mid-quality MP3/AACs. A lot of my music is @ 320kbps but a good portion of my collection is at a slightly lower quality and I wanted to know whether it would be worth the expense.

Thanks!

You've got to remember that the Source material is always the most important for optimal quality down the chain, so that'll be what ultimately judges the final outcome through your headphones.

That being said, the E17 will definitely be an upgrade from the stock sound from your MacBook. The Digital-to-Audio Converter is much better in the E17 and will give you a much cleaner sound while also giving your headphones a nice boost in power. Since most of your music is 320kbps, you should be good to go. A USB amp like the E17 will give you a much better experience from what you have now and although the M50's don't necessarily need amping, it can definitely benefit from it.

I'm actually planning on getting the M50's some time in the near future too, so you'll definitely need to let me know how they work out with the E17 if you get it!
