I think is the lcd2, 650 is dark with stock cable but much better with zu2

All top headphones I've heard (k1000, d7000, ad2000, RS1, GS1000, T1, HD800) so far have unforgivable flaws. When you pass 1000$ it's hard not to compare with a good set of amp and speakers for the same money and see the price isn't justified. The real good buy is something like the HD600, or if you must have a Grado - a HF2 but that's pushing it and only worth it if you happen to like the Grado coloration and don't want to bother with an amp.

Out of all the high end headphones I've heard the HD800 is closest to the ideal headphone. I don't own it because even the stock HD800 has unforgivable flaws for the price. Maybe the guys doing the HD800 modding will fix them - I'll buy one then.

I'm out of this thread.

hmm maybe he misses the soundstage presentation of speakers.
also all this talk about unforgivable flaws is being pushed forward but hardly mentions the flaws for each of them.
odd though seeing that many people state the HD650 being too dark for their tastes, we all have our flavours.

Well its a good thing this is a headphone site, and specifically a thread discussing the differences between headphones, rather than speakers vs headphones.  Otherwise that might be a relevant point.

 

Let me just crank up my speakers since that's an option.  Honestly though, speakers have some major flaws compared to having the live band play for me....so I'll just hire live musicians instead.
