Thats my point.

The sound science forum here reminds me of the flux capacitator.

Voltage and current. That is what is proper.

Enthusiadt level means that those are sufficent, everything is matched(impedence etc) but then using better parts, practices, circuit layouts etc for above regular.

Definition:

Adjective
Truly what something is said or regarded to be; genuine: "a proper meal".
Adverb
Satisfactorily or correctly: "my eyes were all blurry and I couldn't see proper".

The word was used as an adverb. Which suits our conditions.

If it was used as an adjective. It would leave more wiggle room as it is what is more known by the crowd base to be

Well then that definition is dependent on the person, which defeats the purpose of "sound science". :p

All being said, the LCD-2's actually sounded more spacious to me on an ODAC/O2 than the Schiit Bifrost/Lyr.

Nicely done miceblue! A very enjoyable read.

Could you please define "properly driven"?

Good impression and disclaimer

I think that(i havent heard maddogs so i mean generally) it should be taken that audiophilia is like this. Where something like the lcd is really jut a bit better but some like it that way.

Thanks :)

I would honestly rather own the Mad Dog at the end of the day even if it isn't quite as good due to the fact it can isolate and be used more often by me.

Project-H should supply ample power to the LCD-2's.

I've heard the LCD-2's on numerous gear including Schiit's gear and nothing dramatically changed the sound of the LCD-2 apart from the amp's differences in sound. I share similar LCD-2 audio experiences with mechgamer123's impressions.

Hmm, good to know.

I'm generally a bit more skeptical about people saying that X headphone is a massive improvement over Y headphone... I think it honestly has to do with what you want to hear in your mind as much as you actually hear wink.gif

The MD doesn't come close to the LCD2 in anything but tonality to me. It's like the flat, closed, unrefined LCD2, IMO.

I'd also have to agree with this. The LCD2 is just better in every way (except for isolation if you want to get that technical....). $700 better? Maybe not. But people do pay extraordinary amounts of money for that last little bit of sound quality. So ultimately, it's up to you to decide if you want to pay triple the cost for not triple the SQ.

The LCD2 sounds like a $500 headphone to me, and th MD, like a $250 one. I mean, ideally.

$300 isn't too far off from 250 :P. I will agree that the price for the LCD2 is a bit outrageous for the sound. I feel as though it's normal to have these kind of price jumps though with diminishing returns and all that for higher end gear. In the end though, it all boils down to what sound we like and what we are willing to pay for it. I'm sure if people didn't pay $1000 for the LCD2, Audeze would be forced to drop their price or rethink their offerings (bring back the LCD1 as a lower priced option, perhaps).

I'm happy with my MD purchase for work and on the go. I'm also happy with my LCD2 purchase for at home.

Just got my Stax 407 loaner from Headamp.

Holy cow. Electrostatic headphones are the real deal.

I don't have any time to hear them today short of about 15 minutes, but...color me incredibly impressed. I can only imagine what the higher end Stax sound like.
I don't hear a LICK of sibilance, even on sibilant recordings. And it's very, very clean sounding. People said the bass was weak, but I'm not hearing. I'm hearing neutral bass. LOVELY. If I could afford one, I'd buy a Stax TODAY.

They're fugly as all hell, and the square cups don't make it like as manageable as typical circular or oval cans, but these are minor gripes. My main gripe is with the crackle I get when adjusting the cups and the pads squish a bit. It's not a nice sensation. Like I'm afraid of getting shocked, lol.

If only I was rich. I'd totally go for the 007 MKII or 009.... it's insane.

The only issue I hear is that anything under 100hz is leaning to the right side until like 30hz, and then it switches to left side mostly. Switched cables, channels, still.

Ah well...

Is it your amp? (i.e. channel imbalance region)

The loaner amp? Could be, but I tried various volumes, still the same. Also using both my Compass 2's dac and Pico dac, same thing.

I still the gist of the headphone, bass imbalance aside. It's A BEAUTIFUL sounding headphone. It's definitely on par with anything I've heard, if not outright better.

Looks like if I EVER go higher end than the LCD2, it's gonna have to be Stax.

Stax is my eventual end-game headphone. The SR-007 MKI (and Cavalli Audio Liquid Lightning) was just....so awesome.

Pics of the amp [and headphone]? I don't know anything about electrostatic amps except for that the Cavalli Audio Liquid Lightning and Blue Hawaii amps sound pretty good from what I've read.

It's the SRM-252S and Stax 407.. google is your friend. I'm about to go to sleep. The amp is considerably smaller than I imagined.
