I listen mostly to Rock, Metal, Classical and occasionally some EDMs.

If it's an upgrade, I might end up selling my MDR frown.gif

I'd say more of a side grade.  The bass goes deeper on the ES, vocals aren't as in your face as the 1R but sound sweeter and more lush on the ES.  The ES might have smoother treble presence also.  The 1R has a wider stage.  I haven't directly compared the two but have been listening to both this past week.  I wouldn't sell either at this point since both sound different to me and like them both.

Thanks for the input Danny! It's such a relief to know that they're not too much of a departure from the MDR 1r in terms of SQ.

But I must admit tho... the ES700 looks so sexy!

No, ES700 will not become upgrade from Sony 1R. Actually I even dare to say that Sony 1R is definitely in a higher level.

But ES700 has more compact and sexier looking! :D

Geeze Sf. Looks like you got your mind set on some Sexy ES700s?

I don't think the MDR-1R is an upgrade but more of a side grade myself. Guys that enjoy more bass end will like the ES700 more so. To be honest I like em both. I think the sound signature of the ES700 is different enough and equally enjoyable as the 1R and then some.. But that says a lot for a portable that cost less and looks as sexy as the ES700 does.

As good looking as the MDR-1R is. You can't beat the way the ES700 looks in person..Need to save up and get one Sf.

Heeee, i am trying to go cheap with the pads, can't be spending like $40 for some stupid replacements.

Man these ES700s go for like $114 on amazon jpn, so tempting. ATH need to bring these along with the WS99 to the states ASAP!!! Thought i loves me some crazy bass, i think these ES700s will be more of a fun change for me. I am looking into getting the FXZ200s for my basshead needs, so i hope the offer i gave to a head-fier will go through. Fingers crossed!!!

Amazon JP sometimes sells it for about 10600 Yen. That is a very good deal if you got some expensive EUR or USD to exchange and I would strike fast if I were you. It generally lasts 1-2 days and gets up again to 12- 14K Yen.

Sadly I don't have anymore cash to spend on audio stuff this month.

That's after buying C&C BH amp, expensive silver and copped LOD, Brainwavz M5 X2 and Brainwavz Alpha X2. Lol!

All tapped out for now. frown.gif

Does Amazon.co.jp ship to the USA? I tried checking out but it told me it couldn't ship to my address.

You have to register with tenso.com.  A forwarding service based out of Tokyo Japan.. Once you register with them there is a template on there that shows you how to put in the Tenso address for when you check out for delivery.. You order the item on Amazon Japan. They send the item to Tenso. Once Tenso gets the item they email you notifying you that you have an item pending.. They charge you a small handling fee and then EMS shipping based on item or items weight. Then a few days later you get your ES700. This is how many guys are getting their items from Amazon Japan.  Even with the fees this is much cheaper than any other method. Or you can just buy from CDjapan.com  They have the ES700 in stock but is not as cheap as Amazon Japan.

As a fellow XBA 3 owner, how does the ES700 compare Dsnuts?

I think the XBA 3 sound signature is the perfect flavor for me because I listen to mostly Rock, Metal, and Classical music.

Currently with my MDR1r, I have to use an EQ and bump up 30hz a bit to get that bass I'm used to; but still I come looking for a little bit of sparkle that you get with the XBA3.

Would you say that the ES700 is what I should've gotten instead of the MDR1r? A little bit of bass and treble boost?

For those located in Australia, Crazysales.com.au has them on sale at AU$147.71! tongue_smile.gif

If I didn't have the MDR 1r, I'd definitely take this deal...

This is very good to know.
How long have you broke the 700 in?
Have you been able to compare the Sony to the vmoda m100?
That way I can get a better idea because from what I have read the Sony are slightly duller to the vmoda m100 and not as preferred,
Yet like you mentioned, they are "side grade",
Or preference and another viable option.

To me I have to concede that the m100 were the most seductive and satisfying sound to me,
even though they don't have the highest resolution.

Yet to me these es700 are SUPERIOR (!), in SOUND,
and
Yes to me that says a lot more than just a side grade .... !!

Just looking at the sleek size!
Sorry to be blunt, but it is a dam wonder to behold next to both the Sony & vmoda cans mentioned.

An amazing feat indeed and a TRULY portable sexy headphone no one should be without,
at this Price!

Dam I just got fooled again listening to these.
Amazing ability in sub bass to make you think sounds are outside the headphones.
Edit:
Repeat ... mental note..
Must confirm any doubts...
More listening. ..
not a side grade.. that's just being polite..
My ears do not lie, definitely an upgrade to anything I had before.
Edit 2:
Positive sound descriptions:
Wet; clear; involving; musical; sweet; elegant; high end; realistic; detailed; delicate; strong; satisfying; alluring; dynamic; scary realism in bass.
Emotionally involving.

Negative sound descriptions:
Closer stage than larger cans
Somewhat brighter than most "mid centric" cans.
Not a mid centric can anyway.

Edit3:
After this short break in, (one week)
With both driver and brain burn in,
the beauty of the sound is starting to bring tears to my eyes.
Probably because the es7 was one of my favorites
and it's like "dejavu" with this reincarnation and such high level of enjoyment in music again.

Oh i can confident you will love these cans.. You don't have to sell off your 1Rs. These are different enough to justify..I would say the SQ of these ES700 compare well and has some of the best mids of any cans I own. Imagery of music the smoothness shows in the resolution of these cans sounds.. I don't think you will be disappointed one bit. Now the only negative is the stock pads. You might have to import them but the WS55 pads I feel are a necessity when purchasing the ES700s. Otherwise these are worth every dollar spent more than any other set of cans I can think you will spend the money for.
