How is it compared to the HM-801? I'm waiting for the HM-901 but if this is good, then I'll forget about the HM-901.

I am really sorry but i am yet to try a HiFiMAN DAP which is a real shame. I guess the performance should be quite similar to the 801 considering they both use a PCM1704 DAC. Then again there should be a 1794 DAC board for this soon as well as a balanced amp board so the performance of this could well keep going up and you can customise it for your self but then the 901 allows you to switch amp boards and comes balanced. Hopefully i will get the 901 to review shortly and help you out. This sounds great, there is no doubt about that but i have heard better in the Tera Player so there is no knowing how good the 901 could be.

Hope that makes sense, typing on my phone ;)

the UI looks similar to a hifiman dap, i could be wrong though

Agreed, It looks like a special skin over the same UI minus an EQ.

With the exchange rate right now probably only about £510 ;) BUt anyway, to think you have to get no external amps etc for it, that is not too much, most people on here have an external amp and some even a DAC as well and too think the sound quality really is amazing, it is not too bad an ask.

Minus the EQ, it is things like that which annoy with the UI. Is that really a big ask and the same applies to a clock because i tend to look at the time on the top a lot with my iPod for example. It is not like i am asking for games! As for the similarity to the HiFiMAN, you could well be right!

Now that you have the AK100 can you update you impression on how it compares against that, thanks.

Yes I will certainly make sure that I post a comparison :D

They mentioned their lower priced model MA8 here

There was another amp card with balanced output as well. Since they posted page that exactly 3 months ago, would you please kindly ask them about the status / updates regarding MA8?

It seems to be an interesting device if I were able to use that as USB DAC with balanced output.

Thanks.

I have not done any lengthy comparisons yes but i have not found a single headphone or IEM in my collection where i think, that sounds better on the AK100 than the MA9. RE-400 people say sounds great on the AK100 but it is just so much more open and detailed on the MA9. LCM-5 is not actually too bad on the AK100 with great bass but again, the MA9 is more neutral, more spacious, better detailing, better imaging and less coloured! It goes one!

Yes they have a few things planned as far as boards and other models are planned, i will give them and email to see how things are going!

1794 is a D/S chip and not better as a standalone decoder. It has more advanced filters etc so it could be better in this config just like an ESS could but a 1704 can't be beat for PCM if used optimally. The chip itself isn't the sig and your Tera can tell you that. His filter is significant. Same with the 801 where they went with a simple phase correct filter as opposed to a steep one as well.

I was not by any means trying to get at that the 1794 will be better, just merely saying that there will be options soon that will change its level of performance/ sound signature! The Tera really does do things magically indeed.

Hi. I'm an exclusive sales agent of Monster Audio Co. ltd. in Russia and CIS (excluding the Ukraine)

I'm proud to say that Russian enthusiasts (with respect to me of cause icon_smile.gif ) have integrated famous rockbox firmware into this beautiful DAP.

Here is a link to MA Port of rockbox firmware and instructions for flashing: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/HifietMAPort

Feel free to ask me the questions about it.
