Should i get a DAC/AMP Combo or buy them seperately?

The DAC/AMP is cheaper for obvious reasons, but would it make a large difference if i bought them seperately? These are for my HD650s.

Unless you know that the DAC and AMP in a combo are powered separately and isolated from one another you are almost always better off getting individual components.

If this is the case, then what AMP and DAC do you think would be suited to the hd650? My budget is very tight, $500 at most.

What source(s) are you going to be plugging everything into?

Is this for music only? or also movies? and gaming?

You should be able to find a good DAC/Amp combo for $200, but your welcome to spend $500.

These headphones are going to be almost completely dedicated to playing music, although i might watch a movie once in a while. For the source i'm using a Sony Walkman (Z-Series)

So you watch movies on your Sony Z series?

(as well as listen to music).

 

The Fiio E11 ($60) can easily drive 300-Ohm (HD650) headphones.

 

Not sure if you can even directly connect an external DAC to the Sony Z series USB port?

Or if the Sony Z series can stream digital audio thru the USB port? (I know it can transfer digital files).

Or it may need a third party adapter?
