New Releases 2013 - No Records Released Before 2013 - Page 8

^^^ Hmmm....  last one I just bought the CD (and then got the records for the Move of Ten EPs), but this one I took the plunge with the (4x) vinyl.  Because it's so much music it is a tiny bit pricey, but I can tell you that it sounds fantastic and is a great package.  If you're really considering the LP's you might want to download it or something until the budget allows.

New album coming out from one of my favorite electronic musicians / producers on April 1st.  If any of you checked out and liked the Emancipator album that was released earlier this year this is a must listen.  Similar vein...

Bonobo - The North Borders

Video and single "Cirrus" here:

New album by Foxygen released on Jan. 22th.  "We Are The 21st Century's  Ambassador's Of Peace And Magic". Their second album I believe.

Pure 70's, late 60's retro inspired sound and plenty of references  aka "20th Century Man" which was a song by The Kinks way back in the 20th century. So for those who have the time, a particular DOB combined with a huge record collection which can be an advantage to be able to pick out all the many references lyric/musical style that Foxygen's manages to squeeze in each and every song then this album could absolutely be a fun ride. I will say If anyone love's VU it is a must and 'have a cuppa of tea" to blend with this..

All this being said.. Even without fulfilling any of these requirement I actually believe it is a very refreshing and entertaining album and another one to arrive early this year and let's see where it stands by the end of the year. I bet it will receive some decent reviews..

Finally picked this one up.  It's very derivative but it's also a very fun listen.

Very much looking forward to this one! Incidentally, I was just listening to Silver from the Animal Magic album when I read your post :)

I agree, it is very derivative. But it is pretty amazing in the scope of it's derivative-ness. There are so many references going on at the same time. There's a lot of Beatles and Kinks to me, but still everything else from doo-wop to Simon and Garfunkel and Blur. It's derivative of a huge swath of rock 'n roll at once, but with an uncanny ability to place quick snippets of references. When I listen to it, it constantly reminds me of other bands, but it is perhaps unique in the way it combines so many of them at the same time.

For me, it's holding up well to repeated listenings. There is definitely something fun and unique about how their ability able to absorb and present so much from the past all at once.

I'm impressed. It's like listening to some guys mining their record collections, but doing a much better job of it than I would have thought possible.

Still one of the strongest records of the year so far for me...

Isles by the Brooklyn (where else?) via Chicago brother and sister duo, Wild Belle. I'm pretty much a sucker for a sweet voice and Wild Belle's Natalie Bergman fits the bill.  Reggae-ish infused pop that veers into R&B-ish and sundry other genres.  Just a nice breezy sound that stays interesting.

Lady Lamb The Beekeeper - Ripely Pine

Behind the name you will find sing-songwriter/multi-instrumental artist, Aly Spaltro. a very young woman from Portland, Maine who very recently released her first album. Indie folk/rock type of music.

Powerful songwriting, although I may be a bit too old to relate to her story's or by just being a male makes it slightly different to relate to, but I certainly do enjoy the odd angles and very jumpy arrangement of her works.

Excellent string work as well, no matter if Aly Spaltro switches between using an acoustic instrument of many choices or an electric guitar.

One of those albums that keeps growing on me every time I listen it and I believe that she deserves some recognition, hereby done.. and I will most certainly try to catch her live during her spring tour, my type of girl.. if I just was a bit younger :-) Since I'm not, then I will just recognize this album as one of the better ones I have encountered in 2013 and almost coming out of nowhere and I still love the Foxygen album...

A very pleasant surprise and a phenomenal debut album.

One of my favorite electronic artists, F-777, released another album last February. He releases a new album every 2-3 months, so stay tuned for more!

J-pop group Supercell released a new EP today called The Bravery.

Here's the music vid for the main song on this release:

I don't know much about describing music, but I gotta say... Supercell really knows how to pick their vocalists. It's a shame that Japanese CDs are so expensive, so I'll have to settle for an iTunes download.

Check out YesAsia. They ship internationally and have really reasonable prices. I order from them all the time.smily_headphones1.gif

On the note of Supercell latest, I really like it! I love Supercell and this is going on my wish list for now!!

In terms of upcoming releases, I believe Trivium and Dream Theater are in the studio as we speak. Plus isn't Daft Punk releasing a new one? This year is gonna be awesome for sure!!

I appreciate the recommendation, but I get most of my Japanese CDs from CDJapan and Kinokuniya bookstores, and YesAsia seems to have very similar prices to them for the stuff I usually look for. Is paying double or triple the price of US Cds of comparable length the best we can expect (+shipping)?

Luckily, my brother bought a few used CDs for cheap while he was studying abroad in Japan. To this day, I still regret not telling him to buy more. triportsad.gif

Today the 7th album by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was released.  "Specter At The Feast"  After the tragic death of Michael Been (their producer/mentor and father of bassist/lead singer Robert Been) during a tour in 2010 they have kept a low profile.

I have only listened to it a few times, but so far it is the most mature album that I have heard from B.R.M.C and also one of their finest.

They are right back on the motorcycle track for sure and with a very balanced album, not a weak moment.  Another great 2013 release. IMO of course...and any B.R.M.C fans won't be disappointed.

I'm going to count this as a 2013 release:

Some of the tracks were previously available as bonus material. The whole thing was available on LP as part of a box set or on Japanese CD in 2012, but it is now available on U.S. CD release exclusively at Target:

Norah has great taste in the artists she has chosen to cover!

Awesome news. I was just wondering when they'd been offering some new tunes.

Can't wait to get my sweaty paws on a copy.
