Also iTunes gives you the option to change any file into a lossless version but is that legit? I just don't see how apple could pull data from nowhere to do that. If I knew it was legit and changed my music to ACTUAL lossless then I would do that.

You can't take lossy mp3 or AAC files & upconvert them to get better sq. All you'll get is a huge file with lossy sq built in. The conversion setting for ALAC is to use on other lossless files, NOT lossy.

Yeah that's what I thought but why does the bitrate increase when doing so to an mp3 file?

Because your upconverting it to a higher bitrate,...but without the added benefit of improved sq. it's trying to turn glass into diamond,...it may look like a diamond but it sure as all heck isn't.

Not really,...it's good for converting FLAC and WAV to ALAC. it has it's use,...wink.gif

Where's a good place to get flac or alac? Who knows if they just converted an mp3 on iTunes, I feel like there's no way to be sure that ur file is 100% lossless

By the size, 3 minutes is like 30MB. I can't tell you where to get them. I'll send you a message.

I rip all my own music from CDs,...so I know where my stuff comes from. Plus, I have a friend w/a large vinyl library (DJ). I can get what I want ripped straight from his records. All good,...

After a few hundreds of hrs of listening, with a pair of decent IEM's you ears should be able to tell which flac's are quality ones. If they sound excellent then they must be excellent. Yeah the flac's ripped from LP's have that flavor which the regular CD's are lacking. Even those ripped from Minidiscs sound a bit better than those ripped from the regular CD's. But honestly it's not a big deal as long as it's not mono recording. wink_face.gif

You use a turntable hooked up to a computer,...he has all his stuff on his players from ripping/recording the vinyl he owns. He has a huge library,...over 40 gets you a mega collection!!! biggrin.gif
