Purk,

Sitting here listening to the Chesky Binaural Sampler on the AK-100 and my Sennheiser HD-580s. Very impressive. Clean & quiet, with accurate and adequate bass. The Sampler is crazy weird in terms of soundstaging. More like listening to speakers. Singers are in front of my face! Weird but fun! The sense of space is impressive. Can't wait to try them with the Etymotic ER-4Ps.

I think you'll like both the recording and the AK-100

John,

The AK-100 is said to be great at driving higher impedance phones; however, it doesn't fair well with custom IEMs or lower impedance phones due to its rather high output impedance.  I'm curious about this myself.  I'm contacting Vinnie of Red Wine Audio to see if I can obtain his mods unit to make a comparison during the meet.

During the meet, be sure to check out JH Audio & other C IEMs (Customer In Ear Monitor) mfgs..  You will be quite impress by the audio performance from these little gems.  Justin of Headamp will bring some of the best gears in the world.  Make sure to check out his BHSE electrostats and GS-X MKII dynamic amplifiers!!

Purk, I have a request. At some point hook up the X-Sabre, GS-X2 and some balanced HD800s, give it a listen and tell me what you think. That is going to be my permanent setup for headphones (for a long time). Would love to compare notes with someone of your experience.

I'll give it a try but I think I already know that it will be really great.  I used to own a balanced HD800 in the past and I used my Headamp Gilmore Ref to drive it with a very wonderful results.

I had promised to bring my vintage Denon receiver to the meet because it pairs so well with the hd650 and orthos...today it's on the blink. frown.gif I may try to perform a recap for it but not sure I'll be able to get to it before the meet, but I'll do my best.

Purk,

I agree. I have to use max volume for some recordings with the HD 580s but not with the Etymotics. Still sounds great at max volume though, with no evident distortion! Looking forward to hearing some of the tubed equipment.

Hi guys. Listen ive been blindsided by a few things. The meet is still a go, but any donation (no matter how small) prior to the meet would lighten my load a great deal. Thanks, Trav

Thanks for all the hard work Trav!!  I'll be up for a donation.  May I ask how much are you paying out of your pocket for the Canlanta Meet?  I'm sure others will be more than willing to help with the bill too.  Please don't hesitate to disclose the info.
