You can buy the ear pads as a spare part.

Planning to, waiting for the shop to restock.

Alpha pads, problem solved, now give me a cookie.

The alpha pads?

They're more of a square shape then the oval shape the sennheisers have. I'm pretty sure you could make them fit... with a little bit of crazy glue, maybe some duct tape... lmao

I don't think leather pads would suit the open headphones though... would they?

Guys, I'm just wondering how good are the HD598s with classic rock, hard rock. slower rock music. Someone wrote they are the ideal phones of a rocker who doesn't want to feel his ears bleeding while listening to his favourite music.... I guess I'm more or less the guy of that example. Is this anywhere near reality?

I never liked leather pads. My skin in contact with them can't breathe and I sweat a lot in that area.

I don't think these pads would make the headphone sound good. I would imagine the bass become boomy and the soundstage collapsing.

Sounds kind of about right.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I'll be ordering a pair as soon as possible (where possible put when my wallet handles it) which, hopefully, will be within the next 2 months time. :)

I got the 558's today and I'm wondering how you guys modify it to make it more like the 598's?

The ear pads seem to be glued on so I can't access the tape.

The earpads pop right off if you rug them from the inside. They are indeed glued on but to a plastic ring that clicks onto the earpad housing.

Cheers!

Edit~ OK I've got them off but now I found plastic glued on the fabric directing sound.

Did this change from tape to glued plastic?

If I peel this plastic off will it ruin the fabric and expose the speakers?

Plastic glued onto fabric? I don.t remember any such plastic being glued on the fabric. Also is this on the outside or inside of the headphones?

OK,

This plastic IS connected to the fabric but the whole thing will snap off.

So I guess if I want to use them this way I'll have to have the speakers exposed.

Has anyone been using them like this?
